Supermarkets and Retail

Myer’s half-year results showed an 8.4% jump in adjusted net profit to $43 million, despite the retailer’s sales plunging 13.1% to $1.4 billion (due to store closures in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane during their respective lockdowns). Online sales rose 71 per cent to $287.6 million over the period, representing 21% of total sales.

Will be interesting to see what locations are in the works, I’d suggest many of the shuttered locations could probably be re-leased if they’re still vacant. Alternatively I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of good deals around, while their store footprint isn’t as big as Target / Kmart / Big W I’m sure there’s plenty of centres that would be happy with Harris Scarfe taking half of a shuttered Target.

I do think this makes the actions of Steinhoff and Allegro who almost immediately put HS into administration after purchase even more suspicious.

Harris Scarfe does reasonably well pushing U.S. Polo Assn. which is a not at all subtle imitation of Polo Ralph Lauren.

Their small formats stores (formerly HS Home?) seem to do well.

Interesting they want to open so many stores. Wasn’t that what got the old owners into strife? Expanding too quickly and to the wrong areas?

Having said that, it would be good to have a couple of stores back in WA.

The old Midland outlet is becoming Cotton On, Joondalup might be still vacant. Other than that, they might just open stand alone outlets in Homemaker Centres alongside Spotlight and Anaconda. Ocean Keys might be another option once the original Kmart’s lease expires.

Maybe Harris Scarfe can make a Killer at the Cockburn and Morley shopping Centre Redevelopments too.

Local Coles renovation update -

Roll’d has opened and they’ve added a Pizzeria section too.

LED screens were added upon entry.

My local Coles renovation is now complete. The centre that it’s located in has posted images.

Looks great. Hopefully, they go nation-wide with Roll’d in-store.

Looks like there is new trolleys as-well?

Yes - that’s correct.

Spotlight also have a fairly decent footprint of owned locations (including a number of homemaker centres) through their property group - wonder if we’ll see some pop up in those

Same here.

I only do that if the item isn’t available locally in store (which is pretty rare).

It’s that ridiculous ‘we won’t tell you why’ crap that’s annoying about eBay.
As a private company they may not have to, but it seems like bad customer relations.

Just checking - it was through eBay.com that you raised the suspension query, and it wasn’t a phishing scam?

Excellent. Just the Dad in me coming out and worrying! Lol

It’s likely your account was compromised and they’ve blocked it to ensure that somebody else isn’t using it on your behalf. Would be better if they just told you but this is pretty common with eBay.

You should check your email hasn’t been stolen and someones out there doing god knows what with it. Looks like eBay was one of the places they may have gone to.

Using the same password on multiple websites is often the cause; one site gets compromised then attackers use the stolen credentials to try and login to other popular sites with your e-mail and password from that first, compromised, site.

Use a password manager to generate and store randomly-generated unique passwords for each site, for example LastPass or 1Password, or even the password generators built into recent web browsers like Chrome & Safari.

You can check if your credentials are in a breach by going to https://haveibeenpwned.com

Ebay have a new Payment Process now that involves funds going direct to Bank rather than PayPal, then to your bank.

There was a timeframe to register of last week or a few days ago, and if you didn’t meet the deadline your account would be restricted

One of my accounts have been restricted.

More concepts that they’ve ripped off from UK supermarkets - I wonder how many people genuinely participate in these giveaways, the fact they’ve brought in a half pay option indicates that previous take-ups were not too great.
