This space in question is a Kmart store and close to the Woolworths in Kal.
The last Big W store that was meant to open in WA was Butler north of Clarkson in 2014. That space is now going to be taken up by big box retail.

Still better than Woolworths.
Target Cockburn Gateway in Perth to be rebranded as Kmart and opening October 15.
I reckon the Targetâs that will close in Perth are.
Perth City
Fremantle
Bullcreek
Armadale
Whitford City will probably change to Kmart.
That was quick, they only opened the store a few years ago. Will be interesting to see what it looks like considering it was one of the first of the new (failed) Target concept stores.
CBD would be likely converted to a Kmart even though itâs two level - The Rundle Mall Kmart in Adelaide functions just fine in a similar format / size.
Armadale is likely to be profitable (If anything, Woolworths would be more likely to close the Big W in Armadale Central, which has had far worse foot traffic than the adjacent Armadale Shopping City).
As for Fremantle and Bull Creek I think youâre probably right.
I thought that was quite a decent store, terrible when it first opened, but now itâs quite good.
Target has announced their Dubbo and Bathurst stores will convert to Kmart in October.
This will be the second time Kmart has been in Bathurst, the exact same location too. It previously went Grace Bros - Kmart (c2004) - Target (2008) - Kmart (2020).
Woolworths is trialling a new booking system in four of their Victorian stores.
Too bad if youâre waiting in line and someone who booked a time jumps the queue .
People wonât give a fuck. Theyâll just go in and disregard any booking system. This will fail.
IMO nice to be able to see how busy the store is at certain times - but not a fan of the âbooking systemâ
Obviously it will be enforced though. As the report says, it will only be used at times when the store is at peak COVID capacity, by which time management would be limiting the number of customers in store. I suspect you would see staff standing at entrances and exits and asking to see a verification of their booking, not simply relying on customers to follow these new rules.
And I canât wait to see the video of people arguing with staff about having to wait to get into particular aisles.
This will not work. The only way this will work is if staff literally hold a gun to peopleâs heads and tell them to obey.
Yeah. I saw an old bloke going off his head today because they changed the configurations of the entrance/exit. One door for an entrance and one door for exit now. They put all the basket stands in between so you donât cross.
This silly old bugger comes in via the exit and starts yelling at staff because there is a barricade there now. They explain to him that theyâve changed it to keep people safe and he goes off, shaking the stacks of baskets trying to topple them.
The checkout supervisor comes over and in her booming voice explains why and tells him to use the other entrance or kindly leave the supermarket. He crawls away.
Excuse my language, but these people are absolute fuckwits.
I was at McDonaldâs today, I dined in, signed in via my phone, thatâs it. Pretty simple.
One of the McDonaldâs employees went over to this older gentleman with the store tablet and kindly explained to him that he needs to sign in and they could do it for him. He blatantly refused, and started to harass and intimidate the female employee, who was most likely in junior high school. He started using some foul language, it was appalling.
I went over to him and the employee and simply told him that sort of behaviour is not tolerable and he should feel ashamed about the way he treated this poor young girl. He got pretty agro, but thankfully the Area Manager happened to be in the store, and proudly kicked him out. He was obviously embarrassed. Serves him right.
From Google Maps when Safeway in Mt. Eliza changed its name to Woolworths.
Seems like a rushed job to me.
This will make the people of Dubbo happy - theyâve been frothing for a Kmart for years
Just yesterday, a mini shopping centre near where i live in the Perth suburb of Gosnells is opened after months of renovation works.
K-hub better than a K-hole, I suppose.
Itâll be interesting to see the level of effort / investment in fixtures and the like inside these stores, or if itâs literally just changing out the stock and slapping a different sign up. Apparently that store (Echuca) is due to open July 30.
