So not all Woolworths outlets adopted the new signage?

All stores would be moving to the new signage, and it seems that they’ve changed a significant amount of them.

The stragglers seem to be stores located within major shopping centres, and those who are to undergo building works or relocations.

Standard Operating procedure for Woolworths - I’d say about half of the Big W store network never changed to the old logo when it was introduced, and it was around for almost 15 years.

They were even worse when they owned Dick Smith and Tandy - Some Tandy stores still had a 1970’s-era logo in the Mid 2000’s.

Does anyone know whether or not at Coles you can use Flybuys Dollars at self serve checkouts?

Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping centre is getting even bigger still. Stonnington City Council today approved plans to expand the complex to include more than 1400 car parking spaces, an office tower and new fresh food and entertainment precincts. Works will begin early next year and completed in six stages by mid-2025.

Yes you can, it’s just treated as a normal card payment from memory.

Some of the weird moves HN pulls makes me think that it has got to be some kind of drug front.

Gerry Harvey being a drug kingpin? Makes a lot of sense if you think about it…

It’s never been an orthodox business.
For many years the retail side of things was loss making, and the business only booked a profit because of their property business.

I’ve always thought the mixture of countries Gerry has expanded in is eclectic to say the least (Croatia, Ireland / NI, Malaysia, Singapore, Slovenia)

That’s a surprise given that they expanded not long ago, and I also thought COVID might have an impact on any expansion plans.

Vicinity must be thinking that the economy will have fully recovered by 2025. Plus construction projects like this create jobs locally.

Also highly likely that they’ll be able to do it for a significantly lower cost in a weak / recession economy.

Target Kalgoorlie is shutting in September to be replaced by Kmart which is currently at another site in town.

The current Kmart in Kalgoorlie was one of the Super Kmart formats which also had outlets in Mirrabooka, Mandurah and Karratha.

I remember there was an access way between the supermarket side and discount side in Mirrabooka. The Mandurah Coles has been completely refurbished with no evidence left of the old SuperKmart format.

That Kalgoorlie location is likely big enough that you’d think Woolworths might consider popping a Big W in there (or perhaps Spudshed if Galati wants to open up in Kalgoorlie!)

There was also some weirdness around the structure of the franchises as well

Low tax rates?

Scone are trying to keep the Target Country open, as part of the revitalisation of the town after the bypass was open. I hate to say it, but this won’t work.

Hasn’t Big W put a halt on opening new stores? It’s been quite a few years since they’ve opened a store. Or has their strategy changed because of what’s happened with Target and Big W’s improved position in the marketplace (Not the Woolies property type lol).

Failing that Spudshed could do quite well up there.

They likely have but you’d have to wonder if Woolworths is evaluating some of the larger Target locations in which they could potentially perform well.

Would it be too small of a town for a Kmart

The town itself has 5,624, the Upper Hunter Shire (including Aberdeen, Merriwa and Murrurundi, plus surrounds) has 14,112 (both stats as of last census). If you wanted it to cover Muswellbrook as well, add 12,075 (town) and 16,086 (Shire).

Both are way too small for a Kmart. The only way you would consider an Kmart for the Upper Hunter, like so many people want and realise we’re too small for one, is for it to serve both Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter Shire, and move into the vacant shop in Campbells Corner where Crazy Clarks/Crazy Prices/GoLo used to be. They won’t do it.

Not to mention, Muswellbrook’s Big W is always being mentioned as being earmarked for closure.
