Yes. I recall BIGW closed the store in the same mall as it was the highest theft store in the fleet.
Yes, itās known to be a very rough suburb in the north of Melbourne.
I think it means Marks & Spencer products are only available at 24 David Jones stores. I think these stores have been chosen for their locations and potential sales figures.
It may seem a bit late now given Iām only posting this a month later, but I can safely say the laughs/jokes about Brescia Furnitureās Closing Down Sale are now officially over.
This time, theyāve finally shut their doors after 64 years. Google Maps page for Brescia Furniture now updated to say theyāre Permanently Closed. The end of an era for Sydney.
According to a social post the following closures are coming up.
BIGW Parkmore (October 2025)
Target Earlville -Cairns (Jan 2026) (Centre Redevelopment, forced out end of lease)
Target Mildura (Aug 2025)
New Sites
Woolworths Port Adelaide (July 2025)
^^Is Target Mildura going to a Kmart? Seems awfully small city to have two full size Kmarts and a BIGW
Highpoint shopping centre in Melbourneās west posted some old photos on social media this morning, ahead of its 50th birthday in September.
Highpoint is turning the big 5-0 this September. Can you believe it?!
Weāre celebrating five fabulous decades and we want you to be part of the story. Got any throwback photos from the early days at Highpoint?
Send them our way and you may be featured in our upcoming anniversary broadsheet!
Weāve got some seriously exciting celebrations in the works, so stay tuned
At one stage through the 90s, highpoint was once the biggest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere. Chadston soon took over that title.
I think Highpoint is now third behind Doncaster?
I feel like the bigger centres in Melbourne have spent more on upgrading the facilities compared to the other states. Perth and Brisbane have had some decent mal upgrades however.
Most Westfields in Sydney need a revamp. I was in Sydney not that long ago and found Westfields out in the west pretty ordinary.
Macquarie Centre North Ryde and Westfield Parramatta are both bigger than Doncaster I think.
As for the revamps, a lot of shopping centres are getting a bit that way, they are probably struggling against online shopping to some degree.
Highpoint used to be my local when I lived in that part of town (1990s/early 2000s). I donāt recall it being that big? Chadstone was always the monster shopping centre.
Iām guessing it was around the 1996-1997 time-fame when Highpoint had a major expansion added to its north entrance near Myer. As I said, I believe Chadstone (again took that title back) with expansion after expansion throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
I find Macquarie Centre to be like a rat run. Westfield Parra is fine.
oh ok, even with the expansion I didnāt think Highpoint was that huge but I will take your word for it.
Also, who knows what form of measurement size they were comparing to. Shop numbers, area size, floor count etc. Yes, itās questionable.
Usually they go on square metres of lettable space, but I prefer using numbers of retailers.
For what itās worth, ChatGPT suggests that Chaddy stayed ahead of highpoint in retail space (about 35,000m^2 and 50-100 stores).
But I mean I donāt know how much we trust it⦠it also hallucinated that Highpoint had a Grace Bros haha
Once Target is closed, Kmart is moving into the former Target store.
Our Target Country closed in Yeppoon in 2022 and is now a cinema.
Whatās happening with Target?
Are they still keeping some stores?
I was actually in Target today, and I walked away thinking what exactly is the point of it. Itās essentially all Anko, the Kmart in the same mall sells the same stuff. The only real difference was its own clothing and some bedding.
Clothing I didnāt think was that great anyway. One thing about Target also is they never really invested in refurbishing stores, many still hold trademarks from the 90s or 00s.
Do note Target earnings are hidden since they merged under the Kmart group so we donāt really get an idea of performance.
Question is when will someone just dump the brand. I just donāt see the point existing to just offer its own clothing range and some bed sheets.
