Super Radio Network

If SCA tv assets were to be sold to someone like Paramount 10, would SBN and SKy News Regional disappear? Sorry we are getting very off topic here as this is the SRN thread.

Good to see NEW FM running some promotions in the outdoor dining precinct at my local shopping centre tonight - just some tables where the balloons are… there was also a 4WD with 2HD rego plates around the corner.

I reckon someone at 93.9 needs to update the Roccy FM website. (even if SRN are known for their “interesting websites”)

Not only has Quigs’ left the station (a while ago), It still says that they air The Novos and KJO (Both haven’t been aired on the station at least since 2018).
I went down that way recently and both shows have been replaced with Will And Woody. and iHeart Radio Cowntdown.

Fun little fact, the website also sends data unencrypted, not that you would be buying stuff from the site (you can’t). Chrome throws up a warning page before you’re allowed to access the page. Pretty much confirms what I suspected, it is a basic HTML page, even Wix, Square, and other site builders offer basic site encryption by default.

Station quality wise, it’s ok. Only ‘local-ness’ about it is The breakfast show, and random announcers throughout the day. Do find the SRN ‘80’s tO NoW’ singing promo quite annoying.

2YYY on the other hand, are very local, local presenters, local knowledge, and play some great songs. (unless its midnight, when they take programming from the CBAA satellite, mostly classical/oldies stuff, not my cup of tea).

Looks like he’s back as of December 2022

They do The Novos Best Of Early Drive from 4pm till 5pm, before Will & Woody which comes out of Newcastle for network stations.

Kyle and Jackie O is on from 7pm on the network as well. The network however no longer takes the iHeart Radio Countdown.

Hope this clears it up!

Any night and overnight announcer for the FM network?

Matty Morris is the FM Network nights announcer. He hosts the Fresh Nights show from 8pm to midnight.

Sounds good, heard a couple of breaks around 9pm.

2GF are asking listeners for their memories of the station on their FB page to help celebrate 90 years in December.

This morning they posted a photo of the building at Swan Creek with the big AWA logo.

Hopefully they can dig up more gems like this when 2GF was a part of the community and not a relay of 2SM.

Any idea where Peter Tunks went? The 2SM website now mentions Bill Harrigan & no longer mentions Peter’s name in the Talkin’ Sport show bio.

I read somewhere it was for health reasons… is that it?

Good question, he had been a part of the show for years.

Just a mention that I heard 4GY 107.1 identify as “Noosa’s 4GY 107.1” and the program appeared to be in stereo. Not new info but not sure it has been mentioned.

They’ve had other FM relays like Radio 97 at Currumbin upgrade to proper stereo in recent times too, so that’s good to see.

It’s a welcome step @TV.Cynic

4GY could be very profitable if given autonomy to develop their own format in dayshifts. Plenty of format gaps around existing commercials and any community signals.

@Radiohead 104.1 may have been upgraded, 103.5 as of a fortnight ago still sounded as if receiving AM and either tuning had shifted slightly off or interference causing a loud squeal. But it has RDS, be grateful for small mercies?

Though 107.1 is only low power and struggles to make it down to Maroochydore. But yes a predominantly music format would be nice!

I’ve found 107.1 to have the best coverage of Noosa stations, south on M1 from at least Aussie World and great coverage throughout the licence area down to Sunshine Coast Airport/Bli Bli.

558 was stereo to until the transmitter developed a fault and they went there to their back up TX

I recall 103.5 had the default manufacturer RDS of WAVEART active when it was first on air.

Yes, I remember that era (well, the end of that era) and have enjoyed reading recollections of @Brianc68, @nickatnights & many more over the years.

Also, yes @gordo92, I recall when the 103.5 TX was replaced, I googled the manufacturer from the default, perhaps an Elanos or similar? Posted here or on the previous version of the forum. Yes @Radiohead, just saw your comment (slow internet here).
