Super Radio Network

Was 2XL owned by Capital Radio back in the mid 80’s or was it more affiliated with 2SM?
I vaguely remember hearing those ads played quite regularly back in that era on 2XL.

As if regional areas (in particular towns that SRN have a duopoly in, like Young) had enough with Swaggart, broadcasting on FTA, imagine a SBN simulcast to fill non local slots. Happy Clappers coming to a “Super Network Radio” AM station near you!

Interesting, I wonder if anyone actually watches SBN? SCA must be getting enough kick back from SBN for it to continue to rent a channel on their multiplex?

Probably some ultra religious fanatics, happy clappers and there kids… because that’s all they’re allowed to watch.

Poor kids, that is bordering on child abuse!!!

Short religious messages were a staple on commercial radio up till and including the 80s, at least as far as I can tell from old airchecks. Then we went down route 666 sometime in the 90s.

Seems like a re-do of the logo they used on that page ages ago (which disappeared for a while), same background but different font I recall, and that actually did say “Super Radio Network”…

Unfortunately it’s so confusing because it actually started (way back when in the mid 2000s) as the “2SM Supernetwork” and that is again the logo on the page for 2SM (albeit, again, weirdly redone recently) instead of referring to 1269 AM.

Although the original christening of the “Supernetwork” was back when the FM service was still the “13 10 09 Network”, after 2ZZZ’s frequency and phone number…

But who knows what even happens with 2SM’s site or BOG’s overall branding anymore

They don’t really care tbh, they seem to be fine with websites and logos that look like they were designed 15-20+ years ago. Probably not the highest priority for them at this moment.

They even have this charming, straight from the 2000’s GIF on the same page (including a terribly cropped version of the logo discussed above with the word ‘Radio’ removed), it looks like it was a transparent image, but filled in poorly.

Agree, but then I prefer that in some ways to the overtly corporate look at SCA where all network stations use the same brand and logo look. Its refreshing to see some individuality.

I also didn’t know 4AM at Mareeba was part of SRN. Thought Resonate had that one for some reason.

Interesting that Armidale is to the left of Tamworth when it should be the other way around geographically. Gunnedah, Moree and Mudgee are all missing too.

4AM, along with 4KZ/Kool FM, is half-owned (49%) by SRN, with the other half (51%) owned by Coastal Broadcasters.

It is also apparently north of Dubbo, when in fact it is nearly 5hrs north west. Also, Young is in lower caps, when everywhere else is in all caps. Stands out like a sore thumb

i wasn’t aware that Caralis/Super Radio Network now included 8HA/Sun FM.

Although someone should point out to them where Alice Springs is in the NT

Yep, it was acquired just over two years ago (August 2021).

I know! How could something so basic be wrong. My Grade 4 primary school teacher is spinning in her grave. Don’t they teach basic geography any more?

Definitely not in the regions obviously.

Oh, I’m sure there is a touch of “we’re on the radio, the words ‘Super Radio Network’ are only going to be heard rather than seen, thus visual branding budget is zero” (or left to the stations themselves, thus how stations like 2GF or 2TM/92.9 have more modern-looking logos than some of the others).

After all, if there are community events - which is going to take place in the regionals, and definitely not at 2SM - there is only really going to be the local brand, so that half makes sense.

Sounds like someone is listening as the map I see on that page looks reasonably correct now re: the placement of towns in the New England/Central West.

When I worked for SCA, there was usually at least one person every month or two from outside SCA’s broadcast area who wanted to know how to receive SBN. Considering my department wasn’t the front line for questions from the public, it’s likely the true number of inquiries about this was higher than what I oberserved.

Looking at the page, they have gone to the effort of removing the gif entirely, replacing it with dot-point like text with the station names, and a very squashed updated map with mic icons for each SRN owned station in that locality.

They were probably perousing this page at random and stumbled on this. They fixed it, but it doesn’t look any better, (it is worse imo).

The ‘Super Network Radio’ cult-looking logo is still there, as to be expected.

Oh right, I didn’t realise everyone else was talking about the GIF you posted here (which I admit I didn’t look at). Fair enough, I guess it’s still an improvement, hah.

SCA (and its television predecessors) were always very big on religion. I can remember the six hour plus religious programme marathons on BCV8/GLV8 in the late 70s/early 80s starting at 4am with shows like Garner Ted Armstrong, The World Tomorrow, It Is Written, The Jimmy Swaggart Show and many others, leading into World of Sport during the footy and spring racing season. And after the Sunday night movie there was an extra hour of religious programming with Living Today (Catholics show) and Insight.
