That’s what I thought as well. 2HD recently advertised for Christmas casuals to add to their talent bank, so I assume he reapplied and got the job.
What does that tell us? No one else applied.
And if there were other applications, that his was the best.
Not sure how long it’s been like this, but tonight I heard music in proper stereo on 97.5 2HD on Graeme Gilbert’s “Talk Tonight” program. Up until then, all music content originating from Sydney had been using the left audio channel only, meaning some parts of songs that only used the right channel was not being heard. .
I recall @gordo92 had alluded to the network planning to utilise two channels on its satellite to deliver left and right audio channels for the 2SM feed to deliver stereo content. So looks like that’s now in place.
Which is great to see as it should mean 2RE, 2GF and 2AD will also be able to take advantage of this when they convert to FM next year.
Now we can hear smart arses say India in both ears to poor old Graeme.
I remember reading something about the link between Sydney and Newcastle being in Stereo - but don’t quote me on that. Not sure if there is a Satellite uplink in Sydney, Newcastle or both…
In other news - I have been looking around on the B-Rock site. Appears that they are still doing their own thing seperate to the rest of the network. According to the NEW FM Wikipedia page, they act as a hub for B-Rock, but I don’t see anything in the program guide that originates from Newcastle. Also noticed that there are some audible compression artefacts on the stream.
2GF is already stereo from Satellite decoder to studio to STL to Maclean 1039FM translator. Exactly the same paths as FM1047. If the incoming feed is in stereo we output in stereo.
Merry Christmas all.
Merry Christmas too @Paul_Covo_Covington. Will the 89.5 2GF FM upon conversion be at full spec of 5/20/40 kW or less than half north and 20 kW towards Grafton?
And Merry Christmas to you too @crankymedia . That’s out of my area of expertise but I believe it will be the same as FM104.7. The info should be on the ACMA website.
I think the only thing B-Rock was ever supposed to do with the network, was a Novo’s late night party special (which in the end actually never went to air on B-Rock).
They’re extremely fortunate to still be running their own race.
You could say the same for that one event in October.
Oh these callers to the “Straight Talk” program with Poppy on the Super Radio AM network are hilarious!
This morning, one guy rings to say that the name of the program should be changed because it may offend the LGTBI community as it implies that only heterosexuals should be allowed on.
But wait there’s more…
He also goes on to say that Poppy should change her name because poppies are synonymous with drug production.
Poppy laughed off his second suggestion, and responded to the first one by saying that they’ve never received a complaint about the name of the program.
The other week when Poppy was on holidays a few people rang in & when Dean Mackin (fill in), answered the phone they said oh Poppy’s not on today, then hung up, he asked don’t people listen to the show?
If they were listening they would’ve known Poppy wasn’t on, but also if they actually listened to her show, they would’ve know she was on holidays, as she’d discussed it on air the week before.
Poppy plays some good music, but the rest of the show is boring as bat shit, with the same people ringing in week after week, either talking the same shit, or just on for a chat.
Unfortunately most of Poppy’s callers seem to be nut jobs, & not the kind that makes good radio.
Straight Talk with Poppy makes you yearn for the days when the Super Radio Network’s regional stations in the AM network were allowed to run their own local shows on Saturday mornings.
It’s the commercial version of Australia All Over.
1970s when 2SM was the top rating station in Sydney.
2RE in Taree still does… it’s one of the few that don’t take Poppy on Saturday mornings.
At least 12 months ago 2TM didn’t either.
I’m amazed Poppy is still on air. It’s terrible radio. I wish the 2SM network would drop all this rubbishy talkback. It’s so dreadful.
I tend to agree, though it’s the quality of the callers that is the main problem, Poppy is a pretty decent host, she handles the callers pretty well… To be honest, I don’t know how she puts up with them, week in week out.
It’s called money.
