Super Radio Network

The AM Network feed is mono at the moment. I remember hearing on the grapevine (maybe from one of Brandon’s posts here) that they were going to look into making it stereo.

Which would be timely in light of impending FM conversions for 2AD, 2RE and 2GF.

I do believe this has now changed so I am told… but don’t quote me on this as I have not seen the change with my own eyes

I’ll have to have a listen to the 2LM FM Translator and see if I can notice the network program in Stereo

2SM seems to be in stereo most of the time. The new studio sound good. I am not sure if programming out of 2HD is in stereo or not. From memory it wasn’t before in recent history.

My money is on the 2LM translator at Kyogle still effectively outputiing mono sound as the studio link to the TX would need to be stereo as well.

Gordo92 We are only receiving either left or right channel in mono from the network at the moment. A Beatles song the other day sounded ridiculous with only the instruments and background muffled singing.

Since your tag didn’t work I’ll tag him @gordo92

Though I think he’s in the land of the long white cloud at present.

Yeah I have heard this too from time to time. On 2SM DAB it seems anyone in the Sydney studio appears to be in stereo like the ads, but anyone via the Newcastle has this one channel issue. I could be wrong. But it does sound terrible beatles songs with only one channel, they are better off using pure mono.

Judging by their program guide online, it looks like 2RE is just like 2BS and does not take any of Talkin’ Sport:

They seem to be local till 6pm weekdays.

Do any other BOG AM stations do this?

4GY used to. If you can find a sales whizz who could make it viable for the Cooloola/northern Sunshine Coast with the excellent 107.1 Doonan translator for the coast, ring Bill’s people. Underused asset.

The satellite downlinks for 2LM, Radio 97 and 4WK are struggling with this afternoons thunderstorms. Lots of dead air followed by broken bits and pieces of programming.

That used to happen to SBS TV as well in the past.

And for ALL FOXTEL viewers on satellite if Sydney was affected.

There would be times when the uplink in Sydney couldn’t get the feed to the satellite because of the weather, meaning black screens nationwide.

Rainfade perhaps? My internet was impacted when I was on satellite broadband it was raining fairly heavily.

Same thing happened yesterday with 2DU and Zoo (I’m currently working in Dubbo). A period of very heavy rain kept both switching to their back ups. The satellite feed would momentarily come back only to drop out again so songs chopped constantly. Triple M seemed to be OK with their network content.

Triple M would be using SCASat, which uses a combination of Satellite and IP based methods to deliver programming. A couple of their techs put out a video on the system, based on Telos Codecs. I think there was an uplink in Melbourne and Sydney that could be used, and if the receiving codecs could not get the data stream from the Satellite, it got exactly the same packets delivered to it through the internet, so no noticable difference - pretty cool. An IP Backup would be incredible for SRN .

Been in the works for sometime, just no one has had the time to get the gear and install it.

Up in Coffs, noticed 2HC is taking Brent Bultitude from Newcastle on afternoons again.
This was their local content slot last time I listened.
I assume that has been moved to breakfast?
They don’t appear to have an active website for me to check :frowning:

As @Laoma recently posted, 2PM Port Macquarie still has afternoons as their local content program, mostly music still, but the music selection isn’t bad at all, and a refreshing change from the repetitive playlists on Hit/Triple M.

At least super radio network seem to “allow” local stations to customise a bit .
