I’m calling for 2SM and it’s AM Affiliates to play more 60’s, 70’s and 80’s during the Day.
100% agree. Not just days, but 24/7.
A lot of the regional AMs do this. It’d be nice if 2SM threw in a few more tracks here & there - even during Talkin’ Sport & Talk Tonight.
Surely Coldplay’s Clocks still gets a play during Talkin’ Sport?!?!
And Kylie Minogue during Talk Tonight
As the content director of 2HD in Newcastle I can assure you particularly in Breakfast with Richard and Kim weekdays we are playing an awesome mix of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music. For the first time and for as long as I can remember we are now doing monthly music monitors getting feedback from our listeners on the music that we play. Our music is focused and we are now playing the killer songs that is great for our target. Whilst in some shifts that come out of Newcastle during network time we don’t play a lot of music but if you tune into breakfast and Mid-dawns it will give you a general feel for our playlist as we play more music in both those day parts. Each on air shift in Newcastle our music is hand picked. We continue to work hard to improve our product and the last survey results particularly in breakfast only enhance the great effort our team are putting in.
It’s a shame 2RE don’t stream online. Driving down the coast yesterday they had a great mix after Laws. Wish all the Super Network stations switched to music and ditched all the talk rubbish.
Quick question @Pete_Davis - why don’t 2HD and New FM stream online?
Streaming is not far away I’m reliably informed, watch this space.
Adding all the Super stations to iHeartRadio and Radioapp would be good idea, I think.
That is awesome Pete! It would be great if eventually the network stations started to stream as well, especially with the popularity of smart speakers
That would be fantastic as well!
Small steps guys, we are doing the best we can. We have a great team in Newy, all we can do is keep working hard, keep focused and hopefully the rest will look after itself. No guarantees but we have to keep the faith.
Would likely happen if they streamed online because of their existing program supply agreement with ARN for the iHeartRadio Countdown.
Since I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet, Neil Langford is retiring from 2LF.
Heard this odd this odd sweeper on Triple G Gunnedah today.
Tamworth’s 97five - Triple G FM
Not sure why they promote Tamworth when their Super Radio Network already owns 2TM & FM92.9 there. Both of which were local until midday today, all other network stations up in the north west appeared to be on the network feed this morning.
I heard this sweeper on Triple G back in November of last year. I thought the exactly same thing.
I went for a trip up to Port Macq. A rapid trip it was only 1 night. Anyway don’t judge me, but I listen to mostly to the Super radio network. It didn’t feel right no more 2MC, the Triple M didn’t feel right up there. Having Ray Hadley on Triple M rather than 2MC, it just feels out of place and the station I felt targeted a different demographic outside of Rays target audience. I did not have time to listen to Triple M, just first impression. I am more of a fan of John Laws.
I find it quite interesting why radio 531 broadcast into Port Macquarie on 93.5 FM from the same location as Triple M. The only difference was at 3kw (on 93.5 FM) rather than 20 kw (on 100.7 FM) for Triple M. 531 AM whilst not perfect does get into Port Macquarie from Kempsey. My view they should broadcast from further south where the Triple M repeater is on 90.3 FM at the Queens State Forest. It would provide better coverage to the south especially if they remain at the same power of 3kw. I believe it should also provide adequate coverage into the south of Port Macq city area. The good thing with being on AM you can still get 531 AM at North Haven during the day (albeit like SEN Track 1539 AM into Hornsby), much better than 93.5 FM . It might be a different case at night.
The FM station had pretty good sound when it was broadcasting local programming from 12pm-3pm. Even with the feeds from Sydney/Newcastle it sounded better than DAB radio in Sydney. I think it was only in mono. The mix of music was good during this time .
2RE at Taree on the way home, was live and local, not taking talkin sport. They also played a good mix of music. In my view it was a much better listen than “Triple M”. I guess this is why I preferred BOG over the “Triple M” network. It still feels slightly different from town to town (even though still heavily networked).
Night skip issues are probably the reason for the FM repeater.
It is interesting as to why only 3kw, and that Triple M is the only one with a Camden Haven repeater (Hit doesn’t have one either).
Did you get to listen to Max107.3 at all?
No I should of listened to Max. I stayed on Port Macquarie, if I had of remembered, at the lighthouse I have no doubt it would been ok there. I forgot to test it out in Port Macquarie town itself. The Kia FM scan did not pick it up.
Yes, the MAX signal is only really listenable in elevated spots around Port.
Its transmitter is west of Taree, and has reduced power to the north.
