Super Radio Network

And I’m sure it wouldn’t cost Bill any extra money, as the music is being selected anyway - only it’ll go out across a network.

But still, Bill would say no and it is likely B-Rock will eventually adopt the Best Music format as soon as Bill’s legally allowed to swing his infamous axe at Bathurst Broadcasters.

It is quite sad. If anybody in Bathurst wants to know their future, just look at NewFM/2HD’s past.

It would probably require extra satellite bandwidth to accommodate another feed.

Fairly certain they have 8 channels on their satellite service. When I was at Taree there the first two channels were for the news feed and 2SM feed (both mono) Channels 3 & 4 were New FM (Stereo) and 5 & 6 were sending out either Gorilla or Super Dance Digi, with 7 & 8 silent. There was talk of putting the SM feed on Stereo, but I don’t think there was a need for the DAB+ stations to be beamed up, why not put B-Rock on instead?

Thanks! So that means each channel is mono, so that is why the NEW FM feed needed 2 channels in order to deliver stereo?

The satellite has 4 Stereo Pairs and is setup as follows

Channel 1 Left: New FM Network Left Channel
Channel 1 Right: New FM Network Right Channel
Channel 2 Left: AM Network Mono
Channel 2 Right: AM Network Mono
Channel 3 Left: NSW News
Channel 3 Right: UNUSED
Channel 4 Left: Gorilla Digital Left
Channel 4 Right: Gorilla Digital Right

Of note is the plan to change the AM network from Dual Mono to Stereo and also use Channel 3 Right for QLD news

Thanks!

If Bathurst were to playout a rock format to the network as an alternate feed to the NEW FM CHR format (as some are suggesting(, would any additional hardware be required at their studios or can they uplink to the satellite using the same downlink hardware?

Changing the network feed to stereo would be handy for 4WK, not to mention the 10,000 FM translators the AM network has around the place

Brock’s format would be perfect for Newcastle. I always thought the current NewFM network log works well in solus markets with no FM alternative but sucks in Newcastle. The idea of having a “two size fits all” approach to regional syndication is worth the investment surely if theres channel capacity already available. (Insert star city carpet jokes here)

A rock format is a lost opportunity for in Newcastle for SCA as well. Imagine a triple M that played rock.

Two news bulletins read from Pyrmont? One live, the other pre-recorded?

Give us your best ones, please!

Correct, imagine if NEW was used as a serious disruptor to SCA’s two formats, it wouldn’t take much effort using what are I’m sure passionate radio staff already within the network who currently, observe the market dynamics simply sail by them.

Yeah we are stereo on both FM and AM lol

Yes I often wonder why Newcastle doesn’t have the Triple M metro format. I think it should.

The FM Bulletins are already pre-recorded  - I would imagine that they would just roll another bulletin for QLD and pre-record it as well?

Wow! Don’t think I have even seen AM Stereo outside of a few test videos I have seen in the 20 years that I have been alive haha. I can sometimes get 4AK (and probably 4WK) here in Casino at night - it’s interesting hearing the quality difference between 4AK on AM, and 2ZZZ during network programs.

Yes 4WK is we think the only station in Aus broadcasting AM stereo. I get a weak, noisy signal in Brisbane but enough to get this

Down in Casino you might have troubles getting it with Radio 97 right next door. That and tracking down a stereo receiver

In my experience, Radio 97s signal doesn’t travel well outside the Tweed Valley much at all… hence repeaters at Currumbin and Mullumbimby.

@tamago_otoko upping his nerd game with that setup. And he’s in a committed relationship. Not to mention in a ‘lovely’ subtropical climate. You really can have it all.

4BC has a pilot tone but is fed Mono audio

4WK Is stereo on AM and FM

Was a very happy day when 963 went AM Stereo :grinning:

You’ll be able to receive it much better at night when 5AU on 1242 closes with their FM alternative. @nick_ca

That’s the case the today, what changed between now and 80’s when the pre Caralis owners operated it to reportedly much greater coverage into the GC and south?

Correction, it’s fed a lot of you know what that is fed to mushrooms? Rubbish programming and even worse dereliction of duties by non existent local engineering. Perhaps Nine should contract the TXA boys in Bris to give the TX overdue TLC.

I can imagine and at not a high cost for components. Well done @gordo92 and all involved.

Yeah issue with the processing, the new Orban was never set up correctly… But that’s a argument for another day

Yeah not much at all, a BE AM Stereo card and a AM Stereo capable audio processor we traded and WHAM AM Stereo

It’s still in discussion as to if TXA will take over maintenance & operation of all the Nine AM TX’s.

Can’t give you anymore than that, but it’s a possibility.
