Super Radio Network

Absolutely, the tech world is difficult and radio listeners need an easy way to listen. Especially at this end of the market.

You can’t ignore apps. Most online radio listening is done via apps, even in cars now with Apple and Android Car Play. They should at least be on the Radio App like the other commercial networks and the ABC, and the online Radio Box or Radio Garden which are global streaming platforms.

Yes, get on RadioApp at the very least. Maybe iHeart. Or do your own app.

Please get onto iHeart.
I don’t want fifty different apps to listen to one station.
Where’s the radio equivalent of Hubbl/Foxtel :stuck_out_tongue:

These days, probably more than ever before, SRN regional stations are more local than years gone by. Maybe since Bill’s passing, the new management are more open to localism & less network endless caller rubbish.

Hopefully we’ll never hear the 10 minute callers Poppy once had on a weekend.

Poppy was remotely entertaining. But it woudl be nice for all the heritage stations to ditch all the talkback and go back to music. I’m happy if they wish to keep football as imagine that would be popular for advertising.

I agree with that earlier comment. SRN streaming regionals is brilliant for any radio nut (like myself) sick of hearing the same networked SCA & ARN regional stations.

I see some of the Super Radio Regional stations a bit like the latest show from Ron’s show networked on Braidwood FM Crap From The Past - 88.9FM , Crap From The Past: Archives. Ron’s latest episode is on a small station called WEVR, that don’t stream at all. That small station lives in its own little world and by no means the most exciting station. He is just happy it exists not really following all the rules of modern radio. It is pretty cool he listens to it on a weak AM signal , no one in his family is interested and finds it boring. Just like me lol, I’d listen to the super radio network on a road trip and most people in the car find it boring so I can really relate to it. It was cool they played “Without your love” by Toto on WEVR , no one would normally play that. Maybe I should find a show to request it  , some good middle of the road music, that was never a hit.

So that is the same feeling I have for those regional stations. A bit mysterious that they haven’t been streaming and a very minimal online presence. However this is changing now but in true Super Radio Network style a slow rollout and not in any slick apps like iheart or listnr . A bit like FUN superdigi , it just exists in a vacuum.

Streaming needs to come for SRN as a whole! There is still a little too much thinking “we are the only show in town”. Thanks to years of being in “so called” solus markets. The problem is Alexa speakers and Spotify accounts have challenged this! Then some stations have questionable signal in thier markets as well. Plus waiting for an AM to FM conversion is not going to solve everything. Brought on by noisy computers etc in the office now (that weren’t there years ago). Plus cars don’t run around with external whips these days. So signal levels that once worked (back in the day for larger areas) will not cut it today.

The next thing is some of the SRN stations need to step up thier act. Stepping onto www with streaming means the whole world can now hear them. You become an ambassador (of sorts) for Australian Radio. Plus head office can now listen directly if they want…

Let’s state the obvious.

Whilst this is ‘big news for SRN’, would anyone agree with me that it’s almost a bit embarrassing to have to announce in 2026, that “We are now streaming!”

That’s so 2001 IMO.

This whole thing is really surprising, the medication and wine excuse doesn’t cut it and the room was obviously full of media people and cameras from the ABC to youtube Guy knew that for sure he looks like he tried to be funny but it clearly fell flat from quite a height, wonder what Cheralyn thinks about it.

Has Guy come out to say this?

No ,all I meant was that it’s well known that it’s not an excuse anymore, Guy would know that for sure, I think this is a very strange thing to happen.

I wish ZZZ FM Lismore would be available for live streaming too

Maybe they have Bluetooth speakers for all the stations?

I can’t see them spending that sort of money.

Even if they are just $20 Anko ones from K-Mart.

They’re not the Anko ones - believe me, I was in Kmart yesterday. Two of them.

You can get pretty decent ones made for corporate giveaways for reasonable bulk prices. They wouldn’t be smart speakers, but for simply connecting your phone or other device to the speakers, and playing New FM (or any other SRN stream one assumes), you’d be doing OK.
I’d assume they wouldn’t buy a lot of them, you’d want to keep them as a “premium” giveaway.

Trust me, I know my tat.

Branded Give aways of some sort is a good idea, definitely they’re open to spending more than the past ,Gary Stewart on graveyard has a producer so at least Gary has someone to talk to.

I’m glad SRN punted him. I don’t think they had a choice. Whether we like it or not, we are living in an age where you have to conduct yourself in a way where you have to assume you are being filmed constantly. Either by CCTV, someone with a phone camera or a dashcam, there is no hiding anymore in the public sphere. Any kind of footage can, and will be used against you if need be.

I wonder if the end of Guy Ashford will mark the end of hearing so much 2HD branding on network programs?

It sounds ridiculous hearing a provincial station ID on a Sydney metro station (2SM).
