Super Radio Network

About 10 years ago, I vaguely recall Fun actually did stream in the early days.

Don’t know what 2el has in-store but the fellas were doing level and sound checks on what ever they could find, I was going to going to call and let them know it was going to air over program but decided to listen instead

That oh so obvious arse grab from a so called advertising Guy was so lame I don’t know what’s more offensive the acting or the expectation that it would fool people, so lame. They need better material.

Hey guys…

When all SRN stations do stream. It will be a very easy job to see which ones are dragging the chain. Some may want to pick up thier act. Just sayin… cough cough…

The issue could just be head office giving approval priority to some stations over others, probably not a lot the local station can do in that case, even if they are all ready to go live with streaming.

Could be phased introduction of streaming. If they’ve got one piece of software for all the stations, best to do it one station at a time in case issues arise and you can nip it in the bud before moving onto the next station.

Stage 6 IPT people. RIP.

Can anyone confirm that it’s not just online streaming, but is it also smart speaker streaming for each of these stations?

I wonder if a lot of things are actually up to the individual stations, that may help explain why some are good and others barely function.

Smart speakers just connect to the online streams below in the same way your web browser does. Save the text below as SRN_Streaming.m3u8 using Notepad (Windows)or Nano/VIM on Mac or Linux. There may be more SRN stations out there online but only SRN would have a definitive list. I have tested the m3u8 below in VLC and it runs ok. Happy streaming - remember the file extension needs to end in m3u8 not .txt which your editor may want to append. Also get rid of the blank lines(the forum software adds those)

Great work SRN - the network is regaining technical momentum

Good on them for paying for hosting and not self hosting with a port forward at each site

I’d imagine there would also need to be some level of infrastructure upgrades at each site too (might be as simple as a better/faster internet ocnnection)

That’s very generous.

I agree with that earlier comment. SRN streaming regionals is brilliant for any radio nut (like myself) sick of hearing the same networked SCA & ARN regional stations.

Great to hear the variety and diversity in formats - especially the local FM stations.

Yes, listening to TMFM for an hour yesterday afternoon (they are local to 6pm) was like going back in time somewhat to the simpler days.

Would be really great if SRN is going back in time to when stations were independent and local. After the decades of syndicated talk from 2hd and back to the local stations that Bill snapped up as they were failing. Radio can become cool again, just look at Vynl  and cassette  .

Hopefully SRN will take a different approach to other broadcasters that stream and make their stream URL’s and a m3u file for wifi radios and smart speakers widely available. Forcing people onto Apps or websites really defeats the purpose of broadcasting and walks away from listeners who use devices that listen directly to streams

Perhaps you were referring to an Alexa Skill for your smart speaker?

The IP streams are on the open Internet but Skills allow simple voice commands for various Smart Speakers
