With sport, I would agree. Bu, in this instance, the audience for both shows is the same and TMS would likely just be covering the Oscars anyway.
I would say the demographic that normally watch The Morning Show would also watch the Oscars but they will also find it on 7Two or 7plus or a different multichannel if they want to and I would not displace TMC for it. The whole idea of having a primary and secondary channels is out dated. I don’t watch TMC I’m normally working but I would watch it over the Oscars any day.
It’s not about you. It’s about what more viewers would watch.
And Kylie and Larry are probably happy for a day off, here and there.
I’m not saying not show it but I would put it on a multi channel and keep TMS as per normal as not everyone finds the Oscars interesting to watch and if they put it on 7TWO or Seven Flix and it rates higher there who cares I just would not displace TMS for it. The main channel doesn’t have to be the one that rates the highest.
On a random note, this week (the Sunday just gone to be precise) marks 5 years since Nat took over Sam as co-host.
No one is saying it has to be the highest to rate. But 7 producing TMS while having the Oscars rights is counterintuitive both programming and financially. It doesn’t matter if there’s multichannels or not - there’s no advantage to showing TMS and I suspect their new overlords would be questioning them if they did.
7 have paid a premium for the Oscars and that gets them all the cross promotion and a prime red carpet spot - to then send viewers off to TMS with a note about the Oscars on 7Two? Just completely lacking in any sort of logic.
This is the exact reason (or one of) why they don’t. Why would you spend the money and time producing TMS when your audience is going to be watching the Oscars anyway?
What would happen to the Oscars (or more accurately their broadcast partners) when it is streamed live on YouTube in a few years?
They won’t beoadcast it any more, I guess.
How long is Seven’s deal for?
Will we see them simulcasting with YouTube or will the YouTube stream be geoblocked?
The deal is until 2028 inclusive.
Then 2029 the Oscars is only on YouTube, taking out all global linear broadcasters in the process.
Time flies, thanks for steering it back on topic.
I wish the camera would stay still when filming screens and such, it can be a hard watch when it looks like a hand held doing a hoola hoop world record attempt.

Over the last few weeksI have noticed that for some sports segments, they put all of the NRL and AFL results on a graphic, read them out and then move on. No vision overlay or who scored what try, injuries etc. I just thought it was an interesting approach, especially as rights holders for AFL.
What I also find interesting is that the footage they choose to show for example if Nine show the game but it is also shown on a different service like Kayo they would show that footage instead of Nine’s.
It’s the longtime approach both 7, 9 and ABC has done. The footage is usually Fox’s instead of each other’s.
