I don’t think David was ‘looking over his shoulder’. He has filled in all summer undeterred. A quick segment, minutes before the show end on his last day filling in for Shirvo was not going to phase him.
I think your read on this situation is way off the mark.
And yes, I buy in to the ‘Sunrise family’, and so does the audience, because they have seamlessly switched hosts over the years… they’ve switch from kochie to shirvo, from Mel to Sam to Nat without a blip.
I don’t see what the issue is, aside from the fact that it comes across as a bit corny. Doubt Shirvo and Woiwod really care either, in fact they probably haven’t thought about it since.
They are more of a family than Today. Case in point, over summer at least at Sunrise the viewers had familiar faces…Today had whoever they pulled out of hat hosting the show.
That’s not a family, it’s good rostering/planning.
They are only capable of good rostering because they have a ‘family’ of presenters to choose from.
I wonder why Perth’s Sunrise news stop doing the Zoom in feature- at least 12 months ago?
It moved to the smaller studio didn’t it? The wideshots is ugly anyway.
He was presumably sacked because the way viewers wanted their entertainment news changed over the years and having a reporter in Hollywood became less important as content viewing habits changed and the “gossip” industry became less relevant.
They replaced him with Cooper Lawrence and Peter Ford.

Sure but I mean the content of both vs Nelson (doing multiple hits a morning) is quite different. Peter Ford is Australian centric, Cooper they don’t use nearly as much as Nelson either and she is perhaps falls more analysis/news rather than just out and out gossip.
