Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

Yes, a lot of changing and swapping in 2013.

Annette Sharp claiming in today’s paper that:

  • 7 bosses told Koch last weekend his time was up
  • Shirvington to get the gig
  • Karl expressed interest in joining 7 and potentially taking over Koch
  • Craig McPherson has long been pushing for change at the helm of Sunrise
  • Change of host to coincide with change of studio

Alright then… I feel like that’s some BS right there. The 1st and 3rd

Its amazing she wrote this article after the announcement and not before, wow what BS

Do we really have to pile on Annette Sharp each time her name is mentioned? Yes, she’s a columnist, but she’d have good contacts inside Seven.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kochie was only told last weekend they wanted him gone. It makes sense that now would be the time they transition to Shirvo whilst the ratings are at a high.

Doesn’t seem remotely credible that Seven would ask Kochie to leave as the host of the number one breakfast show. Kochie is synonymous with the success of the show and there is no sign of that waning at all, if anything the comparative numbers have rarely looked better.

That column had so many coulds and woulds etc

Not confident it’s accurate.

That’d be a disaster.

Yes. She’s a gossip hack.

Proven time and time again that she speculates and poses her assumptions as facts. And she has vendettas against many people in the industry who she has crossed paths with in the past.

There’s probably some truth to the story but it does seem incredibly embellished.

It’s entirely possible that Koch signed a two year contract, knowing he wouldn’t spend all of it on Sunrise and he’d be moved off/transitioned out as part of a planned process when the time was right but the way it’s written makes it sound like a soap opera.

The show is about to shift locations - it also acts as an opportunity to start to make other changes to the show.

This whole transition plan feels very off to me.

Sunrise saw a massive ratings backlash when they last pushed through a rapid series of changes (which coincided with the current set launching) and has been massively conservative ever since opting to roll out a slow trickle of barely noticeable changes rather than making big splashes.

And now here they are about to do a full shakeup of the whole show - new host and new set on the same day. It’s bizarre.

I was expecting to see Kochie remain until at least the end of the year to space some of these changes out a little bit more.

How new will it be? I’m expecting nothing more than an upgraded version of what they currently have. All screens.

Sean Power has said it’ll be familiar but have new elements. Whatever that means

I hope that they’ll bin this set once they move. Last thing we’d want to see is the same old schamozzle that’s about 5 years out of date.
