He could become a Spotlight contributer…
The fact that Sunrise used someone different to Shirvo to co-host on the first Friday after Kochie’s retirement announcement makes we wonder if they’ve changed their mind?
They probably did it to avoid further speculation from the DM etc.
They wouldn’t have wanted to be seen as letting the cat out the bag early.
Maybe Shirvo is at the new studios building the set. Kochie used to joke about how he spent the weekend building every time they had a new set in the past.
Bring on Monday I say. I’m hoping that Mel and Sam will make an appearance in studio on Friday
Kochie did the Rap Up of the Week on Fitzy and Wippa on Nova and they had a chat about his time on Sunrise. Then they tried to trip him up into admitting that he will be handing over to Shirvo as his replacement. Kochie wasn’t caught out but did say that his replacement will be younger and much better looking than himself.
Must be in the clip notes he was given - 4BC 4 days ago. Does that qualify as a ‘dad joke’?

As commented
It’s either Shirvo or Dr Chris. Gotta be.
I thought DCB will start on July 1st
That doesn’t really narrow it down ![]()

A clip of Mel’s last day on Sunrise randomly popped up on YouTube. Interesting how Kerry Stokes said, “We’re going after the 7pm news like no one has before” and Tim Worner said, “We’ve waited a long time to make this move.”
It fizzled, and now they seem to have no interest in it at all.
If I remember correctly, this 7:00pm bulletin was focused on covering that year’s (2013) upcoming federal election, which of course resulted in Kevin Rudd losing the Prime Ministership to Tony Abbott.
Being commercial-free meant it went directly head-to-head with the ABC’s flagship evening news bulletin, and I think the reason it eventually (and rather quietly) copped the axe was not just due to the competition provided by Aunty but I also don’t think it would’ve been sustainable to have one news bulletin after the other.
At one point in 2013, Nine in Sydney had close to four hours of news within 4.5 hours across two channels: Nine News Now, the Afternoon News, the 6:00pm news and the 7:00pm bulletin on 9Gem which disappeared by the end of October that year.
A swing and a miss. We know they happen. If the audience isn’t there, why pump resources into it? At least they seem to be sticking with The Latest, despite the still fluctuating timeslot.
Didn’t GTV9 take over the 7pm bulletin at the end with Jo Hall?
I don’t remember that, to be honest. Nine’s 7:00pm bulletin was (to my knowledge) always hosted by either Peter Overton or Georgie Gardner; after that bulletin was quietly axed, Nine extended its’ Sydney news to one hour with the other markets following suit by January 2014.
Melbourne at the time was producing a Qantas in-flight bulletin with Jo Hall. I believe this took over the 7pm news shown on Gem.
It was just a nightly bulletin. Probably more like The Latest with Mel doing live crosses to reporters.
Mel was also offered to co his the Afternoon News with Matt White.
Which she did until she took over from Chris Bath on 7 News Sydney weekend and Sunday night.
Matt only lasted until he left to go back to 10, from memory.
