Confirmation that Pell is leaving for the US.
Further fire adding to the rumours. Pell expected to be leaving at the end of Q1:
Michael will be a big loss to the program. He evolved Sunrise into what it is today. Would be interesting to see if the next EP makes any major changes to the show.
The Morning Show has trended downhill in content and Today Extra regularly equals or bests it. Not sure that’s the smartest move.
All Michael did was make lazy tabloid decisions in news content and editorial. He dragged the show down to reactionary and visceral levels rather than the level-headed and viewer-up approach it had previously. Good riddance.
Later live break into Sunrise’s regular programming (wrong time code for QLD that was later removed) only shown in QLD.
The show returned to where it left the delayed version of the show with the timecode 10 minutes early. Then they put in an overlay to cover the clock.
They’ve returned to the delayed show now in Qld but the clock is wrong. 11 mins behind real time (length of the press conference).
Edit: now fixed with a cover up clock- different font
Sarah is the obvious choice. Not only does her appointment mirror the path of Pell, but it allows the Sunrise SPs to stay in their current places. They were also tasked with producing the show a couple of years ago until the ratings dropped and Pell was forced back… so there’s probably not much confidence there. Stinson was previously a TT producer so that’s why she’d be McPherson’s ‘favourite’. The fact that she’s not there for a transition though perhaps suggests otherwise.
I agree though Stinson’s time on TMS would indicate she won’t innovate and revolutionise the Sunrise brand. Perhaps, if she did get the gig, it’d be safer for her just to keep plodding along because the moment something goes wrong, she’ll be blamed.
What about the EP/supervising producer of Weekend Sunrise?
I think that would be a smarter move, since The Morning Show has been getting stale IMO, and arguably WS is more dominant than TMS.
Although not likely, I really would like to see someone new brought in. The show needs to go back to its role as an innovator, rather than a reactor. That’s what Boland was good at. When was the last time Pell really did something innovative with the show?
Pell added a different font to the rolling tickers, and got new coffee mugs for the table.
Jokes aside, I also reckon that they should bring in someone new rather than one of the producers from Weekend Sunrise or from The Morning Show. It might add some more spark /innovative to the show
From comments over a number of threads I was prompted to watch the first hour of sunrise this morning, with the intent of comparing it to Weekend Today and Weekend Breakfast, though finding the latter two not available on catch up.
While they’re obviously the ’B Team’ for Weekend Sunrise, for reasons unknown they cohost weekend Sydney news and alternatively hosting on The Latest… but, I found Ange and Musher with their experience, knowledge and chemistry ‘just felt right’ for what they had to deliver this morning.
I’m not sure if their place is Sunrise, The Latest or the Sydney News, but 7 has a formidable duo and they need to utilise them, somewhere.
The flooding in Qld is escalating. Dams over 100% and Wivenhoe at 110%. SEQ is in huge trouble. WS needs to be live tomorrow. I’d even suggest extended in Qld.
In 2011 then-weather presenter Grant Denyer was in Gympie for that year’s floods

What about the EP/supervising producer of Weekend Sunrise?
The EP of Weekend Sunrise is Pell’s partner who will presumably be moving with him.

WS needs to be live tomorrow.
It will be:
That’s not correct. He’s the director.
Sharyn Ghidella mentioned at the end of 7News that Weekend Sunrise will be a special extended Qld edition tomorrow.
Presuming this means from 9-10am local time after the main edition ends for the rest of the country.
Yup we are live in qld this morning. Every 2 minutes the hosts reiterate the two main stories. Are having a few technical issues
That clock coverup is pretty ordinary. Wrong font and not even removed throughout the opener.
