She also announced she was pregnant, so it was a network promo but wrapped in the baby news they love so much.

This is a little different. That was a quirky story about how two news anchors from little ol’ Perth broke a world record and ended up in the Guinness World Record Book. For Sunrise, they have a very loyal and relatively big Perth audience. So, having some of the most popular ‘personalities’ in Perth on might get those tuning in for local news to stick around a little longer. It at least played well domestically… I’m unsure if this could even do that.

Only a 1/4 of the segment related to her pregnancy. When it was teased throughout the morning, it wasn’t promoted as a catch-up with a former Olympian with baby news instead it was all about this ‘big’ new role. The intent was clear, it’s relevance not so much. Personally, I think the time could have been better spent.

Not sure if this latest info about Michael Pell possibly leaving the show has been posted anywhere. There was an article last year.

Sunset for Sunrise boss?

A year ago it was his former “work wife” Samantha Armytage whom PS revealed was headed for the exit at Channel Seven’s Martin Place Sunrise studios. Now comes word that executive producer Michael Pell may be looking for greener pastures too.

Pell declined to comment when PS called, however his name has been touted about various US media offices recently, and PS has confirmed his current contract with Seven is in negotiation.

Pell has been EP of Sunrise for 11 years and is probably keen for a change. But while he may be considered a big fish in the local TV pond, he’s but a minnow in the vast ocean of American network television.

Followed by a snippet of info in a story about Sarah Harris joining Sunrise.

"Michael, along with life partner Dan [Burgess-Wise], who is the director of Weekend Sunrise, are relocating permanently to the US in the next few months for Michael to take up an exciting new role with Seven based in LA.

Pell likes to keep it in the company with his private life, doesn’t he?

Don’t really know what would be “exiting role in LA for Seven”

At least the Qld team had the common sense to cover more local news instead of airing the 5 minute hyper-local interview with the NSW Transport Minister that you see at the end of that clip. :unamused:

They have three hours (!) to perfect it so there’s no excuse. It’s just complacent. Poor WA.

Sunrise should’ve gone live into
Qld today. No local news here yet this morning.
I know the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a top news story but we have local widespread storms and flooding unfolding here.
Could’ve taken Sunrise live then had a local 7News bulletin at 10.30.
The news about Russia is on delay anyway.

Update: local news live at 6.20. Finished at 6.23. Again at 6.37, 7.12, 7.35 after the main headlines, then straight back to Sam Mac.

Kochie hasn’t taken a Friday off since returning from the Christmas/New Year break. Has he returned to a five day working week or is it too early in the year for four day week?

Probably once the AFL footy season starts he might go back to a 4 day week.

He could be working five days a week until Matt Doran returns, otherwise Musher would be doing Friday to Sunday which they might not want. They definitely would’ve wanted Kochie on this morning with the Russia-Ukraine developments.

We could see Matt Shirvington on weekends now that the Olympics are finished.

Promo in Qld for all the latest on the floods on Weekend Sunrise in the morning … but it’s still at 7am, so not live. So the latest as it was an hour before.
Or is that 7.00 AEDT… knowing the way 7 advertises times!

Musher said at the end of Seven News tonight that he and Ang will be on Sunrise tomorrow morning (assuming he means Cox and not Asimus since he said we). :joy:
