Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

Tough. If they don’t want a platform to reach out to their supporters then that’s their loss.

It’s just a shame they had to fact check after the fact. Nat was clearly referencing the ‘it’s not a race’ comments from the Prime Minister. She should have had the day and date ready to go when she asked the question. Similarly, have the stats ready for the vaccine rates. She wasn’t able to back herself at the time of the interview.

Interview was still great and that’s not a criticism of Nat. Producers could have better prepared her.

For what it’s worth though, in the UK and US, it was a race against time to get their vaccination levels to where they are. Australia didn’t have that urgency and arguably still doesn’t.

At the end of the day… Sunrise and 7.30 have clearly shown that Greg Hunt is a dick :+1:

And let’s not forget this…

It’s surprising how hostile he becomes in interviews when being asked questions most Australians want to know the answers to. Not a good look at all.

I do like Nat and Matt. Good chemistry between the duo and will be the successor to Kochie

Slightly different rundown at 7:00am this morning:

7:00am - Opener
7:02am - Coronavirus wrap up with Matt in regards to Melbourne, standing presentation
7:04am - Nat throwing back and fourth to state-based correspondents
7:09am - Matt throws to political reporter in Canberra
7:11am - Nat’s interview with Greg Hunt
7:17am - Rest of the day’s news with Angie
7:18am - Sport with Beretts
7:19am - Weather with Sam Mac
7:20am - Matt & Nat’s segments continue per normal
7:27am - Throw to ad break before returning at 7:30am

Not bad I think. The more air-time for the main hosts, the better, I guess. The question is though, when is the peak viewing time in the morning when the most viewers are watching, as I imagine that is when you’d want to be showing the hosts?

Obviously a little different in Wa

The Federal Governments often use the morning media rounds as a promotional tool anyway. They seek out the interviews to spout their latest policy. It is less likely that the shows ask them on to be questioned. Depending on the politician, they are not usually big drawcards. So, a minister boycotting would more often than not be to their own detriment than that of a show.

I saw a clip of Natalie “having a go”. The other one previously (Sam)would have let him slide without much clappack. At least Natalie clapped back and putting him to task.

James Tobin is presenting weather while Sam Mac is on holidays for a few weeks.

EDIT-
James is still presenting on the weekend.

It’s always good to see JT on our screens. However, maybe it’s me but I feel he doesn’t fit in well with the weekday team compared to weekends. Doesn’t seem to have any chemistry with them and can be awkward at times.

Has anyone else noticed how Nathan Currie seems to always smile during his live crosses, even if he’s reporting on bad news?

Nothing against him personally, he’s a great journalist and comes across as a nice guy, but it’s just something I’ve observed in the last few months. Maybe it’s ‘his brand’.

I have noticed this also.

I don’t think it’s a ‘brand’ thing moreso just his personal features. I worked with a guy who had similar traits and had to really work on his natural smile when dealing with clients and tough topics.

The opposite of resting bitchface?

Is it as bad as Sco Mo’s smirk?

NOTHING is that bad.

I was actually going to say the opposite. I’ve liked having James on weekday weather. I find him easier and more pleasant to watch. He’s actually much better at chatting with people (and the kids!!) as he seems genuinely interested in engaging with them. Reminded me a bit of Grant’s stint. I agree though some of his jokes are a little immature so fall flat.

I do like the authenticity that James brings on weekdays. Sometimes with Sam it feels like he’s just only there for the fame and to plug all the content on social media later on, whereas it feels a bit more real with James.

In for Nathan Templeton this week:

  • Monday & Tuesday: Teegan Dolling

  • Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: Emily Angwin

Anyone else reckon Kochie’s gone back to a four day week?
This is the second Friday in a row Kochie’s had off (and third out of the last four).
