Honestly, age shouldn’t matter for the hosts as long as they have great rapport and can do their jobs well. Today did extremely well during the Steve Liebmann/Liz Hayes/Tracy Grimshaw era and they weren’t the youngest hosts either.
That itself though has arguably led to Sunrise losing ground to a resurgent Today. Sam basically bashed the states with a Labor government and never really challenged them logistically with facts and evidence. It all ended up being a massive whinging session about borders and how she is against them closing because she can’t travel etc.

Her infectious laugh for starters, and that she didn’t take herself too seriously. Sam was always a delight to watch each morning because of her ‘playful’ nature, if you like.
Case in point - the “Cock Islands“ gaffe, various interviews with celebrities, taking innocent jabs at Kochie and his relationship with his wife, just to name a few
I also liked how Sam wasn’t afraid to speak her opinions, even though she knows she might be challenged for them. A lot of people would’ve agreed with her stance about the border closures last year, even though most on this forum would’ve disagreed.
Sure but I’m also pretty confident that because of her stance many people would’ve switched off Sunrise for something else like News Breakfast or Today which is partially why the gap was so much closer last year. Melbourne and Brisbane in particular switched off in droves and surprise surprise both were in the states that Sam always whinged about regarding lockdown and borders. Blind Freddie could’ve figure out what happened there.
If only that was more prominent than her whinging about borders, having to take a pay cut, wanting to work four days a week because of it etc.
Great. Sky After Dark can take her with pleasure. Unnecessary for mainstream media.

The thing is you have to walk that fine line cause I bet he won’t come back on the show now or send someone in his place. Scomo would probably be behind the scenes saying boycott the show if they paint us like this. That’s why pollies can get away with everything.

Then Sunrise can basically say they were invited on but declined and clearly are avoiding coming on the program. Avoiding is a worse look than being taken to task
