I agree. I like Sam, I just feel that she isn’t as interested in the show any longer. It’s no secret she doesn’t want to be there for ever.
I read Adam Bolands “Brekky Central” the other day, quite an interesting book. What really got my attention was the stories and recounts of major events and how Kochie and Mel both covered them. A lot of the time they would be incredibly invested in telling stories even to the point of breaking down. If any of you have an interest in TV I recommend you read it - the Beaconsfiled chapter was incredibly fascinating in the logistics and how involved and invested Mel and Kochie were.
Anyway after reading that book it’s made me realise a lot about the show, I can’t see Sam having the same reaction and or involvement with stories like Mel did. I know they are different people, but Sam comes across as a presenter. That’s all.
I think giving Sam a homewarws segment says it all, they have and are continuing to evolve the show into a lifestyle morning show.
There appeared to be a sense of drive, creative ideas and innovation up until 2010, that’s what’s missing now. The dynamics of the show now are missing that.
This is not to say I don’t think eveyone there works hard, I just mean they dropped the ball.
Yet another article today. I think these articles add to the public perception that if you tune into Today you are watching a winner. So perhaps viewers think they will give it a go to see what all the fuss is about, and jump on the band wagon.
The interesting thing about Mel is she was supposedly dumped because she was ‘mummsy’ but she has excelled since departing. Being dumped was the gift that just keeps on giving for her, especially since Bathie left the building. Another ‘egg on your face’ moment for the decision makers at Martin Place. They’ve certainly had a few over the past year or two.
Yeah, I bought the book early last year and have read it for the third time last week. Unless you are interested in the media and the process of television and radio, you would probably find it slightly boring. It also has a really good insight into homosexuals, mental health, bipolar and admiration. Absolutely a great read.
It is also really interesting to note that in Brekky Central the book, Boland says that if Mel left Nat Barr or Kylie Gillies would have replaced Doyle, not Samantha Armytage. He said maybe that is why he needed to leave, he was out-of-touch. But obviously, he had still more creative, more innovative than Pell.
I don’t think she was ‘dumped’, even if she was ‘dumped’, because she was too mummsy. That was a reason many, including myself, didn’t like her but not why she left. If she was dumped by Pell, it was I would say simply because he wanted Samantha Armytage in the chair. They were and are good mates so he wanted her to be were he believed she deserved. When he began the role, all of a sudden Sam became Mel’s number 1 fill-in, pushing Nat aside after being in position 1 for 10 years. It was foreshadowing at its best.
Generally that is true but what I’m saying is that Today have a longer news segment than Sunrise currently do so it ‘appears’ they are focusing more on news than entertainment, chat and fluff.
I just commented on this in the Today Show forum, but they were promoting over the weekend an upcoming investigative report the show is doing this week about gangs and violence. I haven’t seen either of these shows do an in depth hard hitting report like this on either show in some time. I’m glad one of them at least is putting some emphasis on actual news. https://twitter.com/thetodayshow/status/711842612395683840
So it seems that they have ditched using the live shot on the plasma behind be desk, keeping that weird mashed up background on it all morning?
They seem to be using the live shot on the plasma wall behind the couch now.
Yah they were using that graphic but up till 7am then it’s switch to the live shot. But yesterday I saw that the graphic stayed on it for the whole show
Nat is presenting a special early edition of Sunrise starting at 5 to cover the Brussels terror attacks. Kochie joined Nat at the desk around 5:12 during a live cross to Brussels.

Where is Sam
Guess what, I don’t care. Nat is so good and professional in these situation, Kochie also is pretty good considering he is only a finance expert. Been watching all the breakfast shows this morning. Obviously, News Breakfast is great but so is Sunrise. Today is advertising other content this morning whereas I haven’t seen any other segment, aside from the weather, that has appeared.

and she is also covering the social media about the terror attack.

So from that information, I would assume the decision for Sunrise to go on an extended edition was rather last minute.
I know a lot of negative comments have been made about them since the relaunch, but I’m sorry, Sunrise’s graphics and overall visual presentation this morning are way superior and more professional looking than Today’s. Much more suited to serious news coverage.
The red and oranges are classical Sunrise colours. Great disuse of blue this morning. I also love the dashing ‘breaking news’ ticker . IMO, Sunrise is doing a bloody good job this morning, something I haven’t said in years.

Glad Pell decided to get Nat to fill-in for Sam. Eddy probably is not ready to host this sort of stuff, IMO.
