They really shouldn’t do a wide shot, it just looks ridiculous.

The backdrop is a bit shitty as-well.

Picture looks like it was taken 20 years ago.

Is there any reason why JT is presenting weather from the studio again this weekend?

I assume it’s because he wants to hang out with or be around the other presenters? Opposed to being away from them every weekend.

Might be saving $$$ on OBs.

Sunrise won last week with Today second and News Breakfast third. Sunrise was down 10,000 from the previous week and approx 40,000 ahead of Today. Today was up 20,000 to its highest audience since Easter and 20,000 ahead of News Breakfast that lost audience.

Out of all the photos they could use as a backdrop, they use the ugliest photo of the city. Something they need to look into changing.

Now former Sunrise host Simon Reeve has engaged legal representation and filed a “statement of claim” against Seven, alleging his contract entitled him to a “proper payout” after he was “let go”.

Oh dear…

Poor Simon, he deserved a proper farewell and definitely deserves the payout he’s entitled too after so many years of loyal service.

Can’t believe how many staff Seven have lost this year - Sally Obermeder, Ryan Phelan, Jim Wilson, Melissa Doyle and now Simon Reeve.

They don’t have a good track record with WS Presenters… first Talitha Cummins, now Simon.

But Today won the week in Brisbane which is rare.

Not really - Today has been winning Brisbane in recent weeks.

Assuming that 7 is going to make similar claims along the lines that they did with Talitha about contract vs employee entitlements. It explains why nada zip has been said about his departure.

Well now we officially know Simon is no longer with Seven, which is obviously very disappointing news.
Hopefully he gets the outcome he wants with this legal action and down the track we see him on our screens again in some capacity on another network.

They definitely underestimated his popularity, judging by the amount of comments on his Instagram posts with people asking him when he’d be returning to Weekend Sunrise, or that they hope he returns to the program.

What I am curious about is whether he would’ve been let go if there was no global pandemic and border restrictions?

One of my favourite memories of Simon and the rest of the team bantering in recent times is when Sally just finished the news and before sport they were talking about Bruce McAvaney, and then Sally said something along the lines of “I don’t think it dates at all (referring to what Bruce was wearing in an old photo), sport now with Simon…who has aged a bit, no kidding!.” Then Monique told Sally off for being mean to Simon and just before Simon began to read sport, Matt chimed in with a rather quiet voice saying “You’re looking very youthful Simon, please continue.”

Little did they and we know that would be Simon’s second last weekend on the show - what I just described took place on Saturday 07th March.

Talitha’s suit against Seven was about unfair dismissal, her claim was that she was entitled to keep her job and therefore deserved to be paid damages as a result of the network’s actions.

Simon’s claim is that Seven has breached contract by not paying out his entitlements. My guess is that the long-term casual argument will come into it, and it’s also fuzzy if he was previously on a network contract before transitioning to casual/freelance.

isn’t he just a freelancer?

Considering he’s had an affinity with Sunrise for 15 years, from filling in for Nat when she went on maternity leave in 2005. Then filling in for both Nat and Mark presenting the news and sport, being inaugural Sydney correspondent, then becoming sport presenter on Weekend Sunrise since 2007. It’s a long time and over that time garnered a lot of fans.

I’m sad to see that we’ll no longer see him on the show.
