It was so much better without all that clutter on the screen! Just like the original days of Sunrise!
Complete overreaction by the UNHCR.
Why so, whenā¦
They actually spent quite a bit of time discussing it at the start of the interview.
I agree. Hopefully this year will be the one that Today finally snatches the āAustraliaās #1 breakfast showā crown from Sunrise.
That said, itās quite arguable that both Sunrise and Today are closer to being entertainment shows rather than serious news programs a lot of the time these days.
Watching the interview yesterday, having been a loyal Sunrise viewer since 2002 (never liked Today), I couldnāt help but feel I was watching the show jumping the shark before my eyes as it unfolded. Yes there has been the odd questionable segment over the years but these were few and far between up until recently and by and large the show has struck the right balance between news and light-hearted comedy. Coming on the back of lagging ratings and questionable format changes recently, the timing of it couldnāt have been much worse.
I can only assume they saw the similar skits on Ellen or Jimmy Fallonās shows and thought it would be a good ideaā¦ the difference is that those shows are completely different kettles of fish to Sunrise.
Thereās one part of the new set that I donāt like and thatās the performance area. Why do they need two video walls? One is enough. I donāt like how the old video wall is now designed either. It makes it look too small. Other than that, everything else looks good.
Its probably because when its behind the couch there are reflections on it and its basically them all sitting in front of a wallā¦ So they wheeled it over to the performance area.
Iāve also noticed now the marble is exposed and there is less set pieces, the reverb in that āstudioā is terrible now!
What I donāt get is that they spend quite a lot of time talking about her work with the UN. Then in a different segment did the skit.
Thatās what happened right unless I am mistaken?
Brand Armytage has been irreversibly damaged I thinkā¦ Unfortunately I think she will take Sunrise down with her.
The initial chat went for over 9 minutes. Iām not sure whether they took a break but the next part of the show which featured the ārecreationā was four and half minutes long.
You can still see both on the Sunrise site.
Armytage and Pell are a mess and need to be removed or reprimanded by Seven management. Sunrise has gone severely downhill since she got put in and ratings are beginning to reflect that - another easy win for Today yesterday
The problem with Pell is two-fold and theyāre starting to come and bite the show in the back. The fact that the ratings battle has tightened and some days go in favour of Today so suddenly is even worse. Firstly, he plays favourites to the detriment of just about everything else which is exactly how you donāt run a show. You see this with how heās made Armytage be the āfocal pointā of the show (to be clear Iām not criticizing her) compared to say the shunting of Nelson Aspen and segments Kochie presents (eg; Joke of the Day and āKochieās Angelsā).
Secondly, during his tenure he hasnāt constantly evolved the program to keep it fresh which means it comes as a complete shock to the viewer when everything changes suddenly like it has over the past few weeks. While the new set is an improvement, the format is a mess when you considered the 5 - 10 minute news, sport, weather summary (ideal for breakfast TV) worked perfectly for them for years. While Iām at it, donāt even get me started on how Edwinaās role hasnāt still been properly definedā¦
And the biggest problem is that once youāve lost viewers it takes a very long time to win them back.
Exactly. Sevenās news department on the East Coast should know a bit about that!
If this weekās ratings Mon-Thur are compared to the same days last year it shows that Sunrise is down 16,750 per day. In terms of the volatile breakfast market, that isnāt a big difference, and possibly not a lot to worry about. What is causing the noticeable turnaround in fortunes is that Today is up by 41,000 per day.
I donāt know where the extra viewers have come from. One guess would be that perhaps an altered structure to the show has meant that viewers are watching a bit longer or it might just be a better cash give away this year.
the thing that should be worrying Seven is that they are winning most nights by quite an easy margin, but for some reason right now they canāt bring that across to the screens the next morning when they are switched back onā¦ thereās a huge swing to Nine in that regard. Have a look at the Superbowl on CBS - the next morning (and the next few subsequent mornings) CBS This Morningās ratings were up spectacularly because the station had that turn-on factor from the night before, and some people liked what they saw and stayed around.
That is something that should be concerning Craig McPherson.
Since last week the ugly new graphics and chaotic format of the show make me switch over every day. I had rarely been doing that in tje past.
Content is awful. There is so much entertainment and fluffy crap it just takes away the value of the show. Armytage is clearly favouredā¦Iāve noticed she gets alot of segments now such as the one where they have the likes of Ron Wilson giving their opinion. She has been the focal point for some time and its rubbish. I believe Sam also gets the better news stories IMO
I also hate how all of Sunriseās social media posts seem to evolve around Sam
Last year I watched Sunrise almost everyday before work and since the changes I have been switching over to Today a lot more. I canāt pinpoint it but thereās something uncomfortable about Sunrise now - itās as though the shiny professional new set doesnāt really gel with the way they behave or something. And it always feels crowded, Nat seems to have taken a step back. I also find Sam rather immature and too sarcastic - I loved her when she started but something has changed. Unfortunately I think Sunrise is in for a tough year.
