How far would you go to protect your home, your family or maybe even a neighbour?
We all like to think we’d do the right thing. But what if that act of heroism ended up in a murder charge?
On Sunday Night this week, you’ll meet a man who saved a young mother from a vicious robbery, killing the intruder in the ensuing struggle. The local community praised his efforts. But rather than being celebrated, this Good Samaritan nearly ended up in jail.
As Sunday Night’s Steve Pennells discovers, our justice system isn’t sure how to react when citizens take the law into their own hands.
FLEETWOOD MAC
Fleetwood Mac is as famous for its dysfunction as it is for its many decades of hits.
Romantic and professional relationships within the band have broken down and blown up - often very publicly.
But through it all, Fleetwood Mac has kept on going its own way.
The recent departure of one of its biggest stars Lindsay Buckingham seemed certain to spell the end. Yet Fleetwood Mac is keeping the dream alive with a new front man – New Zealand’s very own Neil Finn - and a world tour that’s filling stadiums.
Sunday Night reporter Rahni Sadler returns with this fascinating glimpse behind-the-scenes and reveals how the man from across the ditch brought the Mac back from the brink.
This edition of SUNDAY NIGHT: TRUE STORIES hosted by Melissa Doyle airs on Sunday at 8.30pm on Seven and 7plus.
I would say these are just ideas and talk within the Network. Sunday Night and 60 minutes usually rely on their lead in programs for ratings. Seven’s reality shows have been weaker in comparison to Nines, hence why rating are lower this year.
It’s only a matter of time before H&A is moved and replaced with a news program, even if that is a rebooted version of Today Tonight.
As an investigative journalist, it is unlikely someone like Steve Pennells will be redeployed to 6pm, like Angela Cox or Denham Hitchcock. The saddest part @David is that this is just another blow for Mel. With no other presenting role vacant, I wouldn’t be surprised if she resigns from 7, if SN is indeed axed.
While the idea of a nightly current affairs show at 7pm should be considered if Seven want to better compete against ACA, can we agree that the toxic Today Tonight brand (from an East Coast perspective) should NOT be rebooted after five years?
If it’s true that Sunday Night is being axed, then I personally hope as many people as possible will be moved into the Sydney newsroom. Maybe then Seven will finally be able to start producing a product for this market that’s actually competitive against Nine (content quality wise) after a decade of suffering/being slowly chipped away at because SN needs the additional resources.
Agreed. It seems unlikely that Melissa Doyle would return to news (would be no higher than a 3rd in-line presenter for Sydney) so it wouldn’t surprise me if she eventually leaves Seven to focus solely on Smooth 95.3 + as an ambassador for GWS and the various causes she supports.
Seven killed Sunday Night when they failed to give it a consistent time slot and injected tabloid garbage into it. They invested millions of dollars and spent years attempting to establish a viable rival to 60 Minutes. They finally had a product they could be proud of and then totally mismanaged the show.
