Last night’s close-fought NRL Grand Final that saw the Brisbane Broncos crowned Premieres for the first time in 19 years averaged 4.46m. Though methodologies have changed over time, that will most likely be the highest rating for a NRL Grand Final and certainly 2025’s top rated program.

That compares to the 2024 Grand Final that had 3.422 m and the 2023 final that had 3.404m nationally.
It also compares to the AFL Grand Final that had 4.076m roughly one week ago.

The result included 1.316m watching via BVOD – up from 762k last year that was a Grand Final record.

The post game segment had 2.376m in preliminary figures. Earlier in the afternoon, the Women’s Grand Final saw the Broncos taking the tile from the Roosters averaging 1.032m. Other codings included The Women’s Post Match with 1.384m and Pre-Match with 612k. Meanwhile the Sate Cup Championship averaged just under 500k. The Grand Tour that followed the post Grand Final coverage may need to be adjusted for a late start.

Nine News was the top bulletin of the day with 1.756m. The bulletin was a 30 minute one in four markets with a 6pm AEDT start while Perth had a 7:15pm bulletin local time. The Melbourne bulletin was notable for being Peter Hitchener’s 10.000th. Seven News did well to get 1.36 million.

Seven’s alternative to the Grand Final started off with a The 1% Club repeat that had 585k. That was followed by the premiere special Andrew & Fergie: Duke & Duchess Of Excess with 362k.

Over on 10, The Amazing Race Australia Celebrity stayed in the scheduled with 403k loyal fans watching. The Graham Norton Show featuring Taylor Swift got some eyeballs watching later with 205k.

The Assembly with Ray Martin was on ABC had 400k with Mystery Road: Origin just below 300k.

Incredible results, never thought 9Now could go that high, especially NRL :tada:

–

At a quick think, only the 2023 FIFA WWC outranks that AFAIK.

Last night also eclipses Ash Barty’s 2022 Aus Open final win, just (that was on 4.4m in VOZ’s infancy).

Otherwise, you’d probably have to go back to the 2013 MKR winner, 2012 AFL Grand Final or 2011 Block winner?

2010 MasterChef winner was more than 5m.

I don’t even know what to say… the biggest program of 2025. What a f**king game.

WOW!! Not just the NRL GF but also the NRLW.

An average of nearly 4.5m for the NRL Grand Final? Wow. Very impressive. And over a million for the NRLW Grand Final too? Nice. An incredible day and night for Nine.

Wow - the NRL grand final smashed this year’s State of Origin game 3’s live streaming record by a long way!

The GF is also the first program this year to have a live streaming figure of 1 million or above.

Michael Chammas at Nine Newspapers (SMH already had an article up half an hour ago - no doubt Nine Research probably get the raw data slightly earlier than VOZ publishing time) reports that it still wasn’t the most watched program in Adelaide last night? Despite that 4.4m!

LOL rAdElAiDe :sob:

NRL will be stupid not to go with Nine/Stan with the record ratings for the NRL GF last night

127,000 isn’t exactly leading the pack, I’d say.

Now what took the top spot is the question. Was it something Seven aired?

Evidently, turns out there was a dedicated audience of 2,350,000 enjoying all four and a half hours of Nine’s evening coverage.

Pretty good in that.

That is still a really good broadcast audience for Adelaide in 2025. I’d say Seven News and/or Nine News for sure.

The Guardian has a handy graphic comparing audiences between two grand finals over the years.

(NRL is the red line)

We don’t have a 5 city for NRLW though, do we?

The lead-in audience would be interesting to see in Brisbane.

Last week I said that because Broncos are in both GFs (and won both), there will be more casuals tuning into NRLW in that city than there otherwise would have been.

Is that true? (I’m tipping 45% increase.)

Did we ever get 5 city figures for the AFL Grand Final?

Never.

Probably falls under “no 5-city on weekend” rule.

After posted that, found an article saying WA audience in AFL GF was 539,000.
