10 was back in the jungle with the premiere of the 12th season of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! beating out the competition to average 925k and rank third overall. That was up on the 2025 premiere that had 905k and the 2024 season with 806k.

Seven’s Big Bash League saw a win for the Sydney Sixers over Brisbane to rank second with 785k. The first day of the Australian Open had 660k and 614k for the two coded night sessions. Earlier the Day sessions had 444k while the Late session still had 312k watching. 9Gem Night (116k) and Day (85k) coverage also made the top 30.

The results compares to 2025 when the night sessions averaged 530k and 4407k and 9Gem had 142k at night while the Late session had 213k. The Day sessions had 347 (Nine) and 74k (9Gem).

Meanwhile the Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now Season 2 Final took a 100k hit against the increased competition with 505k while the Goolagong Series Final was down 80k to 407k.

Later, the NCIS: Sydney Season 2 Premiere had 275k while 10 News+ made the top 30 for the first time this year with 183k.

At 6pm Nine News as 60jk ahead of Seven’s bulletin while at breakfast Weekend Sunrise did well with 420k with Weekend Today on 308k.

NFC Divisional Playoffs had main channel coverage in three markets had 154k. That compares to the equivalent 2025 game that had 126k (2 markets with main channel).

Wow, this has come to a surprise for me. I’m A Celeb beat the Australian Open and the Cricket. Who would have thought.

And Ten News+ makes its first appearance in the top 30 for 2026.

Australian Open averages:

Reach Average BVOD
Nine (night) 1,315,000 511,250 102,750
Nine 1,394,000 454,167 88,000
Gem 675,500 100,500 14,500

The tennis was unexpectedly good as Watson went toe-to-toe with Alcaraz. Unfortunately it faced stiff competition in IAC and a match that decided the final BBL finals spot.

NFL did wonders although the viewership was sorta suppressed due to Seven’s scheduling mismanagement and the game quickly becoming noncompetitive. I think I’ll wait for the 7-day.

Huge figures for the tennis on D1, that’s a lot of eyes seeing promos for the Winter Olympics and Married, as well as all the ads. Nine must be thrilled with that, especially being up across the board and with the competition from Celebrity, Big Bash and even tennis-themed Goolagong which did well on the ABC.

It shows how irrelevant one average is, unlike Celebrity and Big Bash, when there’s multiple concurrent matches happening, switching between and cross-promoting them, not just on 9 and 9Gem, but 9Now court feeds and even Stan Sport (of which we probably won’t know those numbers).

TV business gold and the envy of other networks and advertisers. Seven must shake their head sometimes wondering how they managed to let it go.

Congratulations to the first class of top 30 just-miss-outs.

The way more competitive game being hampered by being on 7mate.

Nine News win the metro ratings by +100,000 - Seven News is down 50,000 from same night last year. Big result for Nine Melbourne. Very poor result for Seven Brisbane especially but Perth and Adelaide still looking good for Seven.

Sunrise wins the metro with Today ahead in Sydney and Brisbane.

Celebrity wins all markets.

It must sting for Nine knowing IAC beats AO by the largest margin in Melbourne, you know, where the AO is.

Getting a big boost from the lead out - similar thing happened with Big Brother on Sundays.

Yes, Nine will be absolutely “stinging” today, quivering in their pants at this truly disastrous performance

Ah yes, dropping the relevant part of the sentence to make it seem like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Must be satisfying, isn’t it?

I’ll say it again, Celebrity beats AO most comprehensively in the latter’s playing field. That’s something noteworthy.

Maybe it coincided with Sabalenka’s straightforward win in the second set. Maybe IAC was the only safe spot for people not interested in sports.

Have a read of this paragraph s l o w l y

If Nine didn’t want viewership spread so much, they’d better pack-up 9Gem, 9Now and Stan Sport and stop pushing them frequently on-air then!

And that is why they focus on reach and share than a single average, Hamish Turner even mentioned this in a podcast a few years back.

While we usually scoff at reach, there are occasional events where it is important, this is one of them. Olympics and Commonwealth Games are another and we’ll see this next month and later in the year on Seven.

Averages that achieve the old magic million (metro broadcast) with these events are more a ‘cherry on top’ sort of thing. I’d be gobsmacked if Nine were selling anything that way to advertisers, many of whom take a package across multiple mediums, such as partner, sponsor, spot buyers, FTA only, bvod only, FTA + bvod, prime time only, day only, lead-up tournaments only, finals only, national, Sydney only, Tasmania only, regional only or mixtures or all of the above…

But sure, if you want to isolate the 7:15pm match on main channel (or “Night - S1”) average, possibly a number of factors: no Aussie, no big name male, womens, Sabalenka grunting, straight sets win, it’s 2026 not 2020 when Melbourne was getting regular 400k even Friday AFL hasn’t for a long time and bvod/svod/connected tv has since exploded and terrestrial FTA plummeted and it’s not 2007 where there was a single broadcast channel. Had Alcaraz v Walton and Sabalenka been flipped, you’d probably see that instantly 200k higher :man_shrugging:

Didn’t the BBL post Sydney Day 1 test get bigger ratings? Or are you talking about BBL as a standalone with no test match during the day
