Sully:
Averages that achieve the old magic million (metro broadcast) with these events are more a ‘cherry on top’ sort of thing. I’d be gobsmacked if Nine were selling anything that way to advertisers, many of whom take a package across multiple mediums, such as partner, sponsor, spot buyers, FTA only, bvod only, FTA + bvod, prime time only, day only, lead-up tournaments only, finals only, national, Sydney only, Tasmania only, regional only or mixtures or all of the above…
You’re really constantly talking Nine up these days and dismissing the good performances by other networks.
Ten smashed the tennis and cricket with I’m A Celebrity and it was probably a surprise to many, especially for a show in its 12th season. I think 10 did the right thing to start it in this week of the year, compared to past seasons.
The Reach numbers inflate the ratings results for the networks but advertisers are not stupid. Many know that Average numbers are more important and it’s those figures they rely on when choosing where to advertise.

Exactly, there are so many on here “pushing” the 7, 9 barrow. I get stupid comments every time I support something on 10 even though I’m not really a “supporter” of any commercial channel. In fact I detest 10’s new ownership (Paramount Sundance Corp) and think they made a big mistake getting rid of The Project for the 10News+ garbage but really like their reality shows and pleased to see I’m a Celebrity do so well. Shows that the pre-recorded isn’t bothering the GP like it’s bothers some in here. I thought the editing was very good on the opening show.

data .. data .. and data
Reach numbers may inflate numbers, but at the same time, Average is also misleading. What would be a good comparison would be the numbers for each program (Celebrity, BBL and AO) over the same time period. Averages of the BBL and AO across 3 - 4 hours will be lower than 2 hours of Celebrity

Re the tennis yesterday and its various codings:
Day: 444K average. Pretty good numbers, considering it’s for the 7 hour slot (11am-6pm aedt)
Night Pre-Match: 459k avg. Which cities had a pre-match? I’m confused with this coding.
I am not surprised that Nine coded the Night Matches into three (again!). Night - Session 1, Night - Session 2 and Late.

I think it is the 6pm AEDT hour that was on Nine in Brisbane, Adelaide (a bit) and Perth, and 9Go! in Sydney and Melbourne.
9GO had a separate entry, going by this (which was the 6-7pm in Sydney and Melbourne):
You could be right re Brisbane Adelaide and Perth that may have had a pre-match segment in the schedule somewhere.

Wait, hang on.
Now that I thought about it, it may have referred to the changeover between the end of Sabalenka match and the start of Alcaraz.
That little 20-minute period.
All markets except Perth had pre-match. It would be between the night matches.
BTW Celebrity was 10’s highest rated program since the F1.

Yes I actually don’t think the GP will Give a toss and in fact, as mentioned, it allows ten to promote better each night, schedule cliffhangers and tease/pre promote big moments to maximize their value like when a celeb tells a newsworthy story. Might actually be a very smart play by them in maintaining momentum for the whole series.

Not at all, never said 10’s I’m A Celebrity launch wasn’t great last night. I “liked” TVCynic’s dataset and opening post at the outset, meaning I liked and agreed with what he’d analysed.
My post(s) about Nine’s Australian Open were in addition to that. Discussing and analysing something I felt often gets missed, overlooked or misinterpreted, in relation to this specific event and which I think you’ve also just exactly done.
That’s how I usually comment in a ratings thread, rather than simply re-hash what Cynic or others have already noted. And if noted, I’ll often mention that as well.

Beating out Big Brother is impressive as well given how hyped that was
