Very interesting insight to the “Brussel Sprout incident” on TV Blackbox podcast off the back of Denise talking about it on Im a Celeb.
Takeout points where (paraphrased);

  • Denise said it was a lob
  • Rob confirmed it wasn’t a lob and it was a proper aimed throw
  • Denise was drunk and was almost sent home.
  • It led to a crew division after the event which led to the downfall of Studio 10 ( 10 took it as an opportunity to have Rob dismissed, new crew etc)
  • Denise wasn’t a fan of working as part of a team and felt that Ita took her spotlight and there appeared to be resentment

Well considering it was covered in butter and stained Itas Jacket and it appears that it wasn’t done out of Jest, it’s pretty much what made the show go downhill and divisions among crew and production begun.

I did the other night and my opinion about the incident has softened. Actually, listening to them talk about the music video being big budget, so scripted and 11 (!) takes now sounds very off brand to the spontaneous, daggy fun of what Studio 10 was at the time.

If Denise threw the brussel sprouts at anyone else, it would have made the cut… without a doubt. A moment I just remembered was a cooking segment where Denise threw pizza dough and it landed on Ita’s head. This was on brand for Denise’s sense of humour and Ita reacted the way Denise wanted.

Perhaps Denise was drunk and maybe she should not have done it, but I don’t think she went in there saying ‘I hate Ita, I am going to peg this at her.’ I don’t think Rob was even saying that was the reason either. I agree this was the beginning of the end though.

All the fun happened in that Melbourne studio. That was actually my first week working on the show back in December 2015! Things got very loose before Christmas - on top of these don’t forget Robbo eating the world’s hottest burger while on a rollercoaster at Luna Park. Hilarious!

Was really fun. Both Denise and Ita individually were both such assets to the show. Makes me miss the variety of it all. TV needs more of this.
