Stan

Amazon Prime has Seasons 1-7. Seven still has first run rights. They are showing Season 8 right now and will probably screen Season 9 later in the year, as they always do.

It baffles me how any network can be two seasons behind.

Why can’t they move it to 7flix?

Because that would be logical and they clearly seem to enjoy dumping it at 11 pm rather than a decent slot on a multi-channel.

I’m not sure how long Amazon has the rights to the Goldbergs for (they threatened to pull it last year but copped a backlash on social media for it), but if the rights do expire you should send a message to Stan via facebook and tell them you want it (but it may end up on Disney+ if they get the Australian rights to Sony as they did in the USA).

Money is probably the biggest reason. Cheaper to be behind a couple of seasons than show the current or most recent season.

It is a bit crap when they have first run rights though.

Why did Channel 7 buy the rights to the Goldbergs in the first place, thinking it was a hit but it ended up being a huge dud? Just because a show is a hit in the US, UK, Europe, Canada etc. DOES NOT mean it will be a hit in Australia. Australian TV viewers want AUSTRALIAN shows not imported. UK drama is an exception.

Not true, America make most of the best TV Shows, just not The Goldbergs haha.

It was probably part of a distribution deal. They probably bought a number of shows in a package deal. Blackish is another show they screen after 11pm and treat dismally.

Ideally, it would be great to have Australian shows screen throughout the day and night. However, they don’t even produce enough Australian shows these days for prime time. Do you think they’re going to spend money on Australian shows that screen after 10.30pm?

We already do. Apart from The Chase UK, Tipping Point and the odd midday movie (replaced with repeats of the previous night’s reality TV show in ratings season) our main channel schedules are filled with Australian content.

So you just want more repeats rather than something new?

Better than rehashed news with waste of time live reports “from the scene”.

Do they ever release info about number of viewers on Stan?

I’m curious to see how a show like Wolf Like Me might do. The Guardian gave it a scathing revirew.

I saw this review and the SMH was glowing and TVT was goodish. Horses for courses I guess. The SMH Is the same parent company for Stan.

Not sure if I’ll watch this. I don’t know if it’s my cup of tea, whereas the Tourist wasn’t too bad.

New ITV drama Trigger Point, starring Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure, premieres on Stan on January 24, same time as UK.

I remember that the early promos for the show used clips of popular 80s media (eg. a flying Delorean) to generate hype. Seems like it didn’t work.

The series was filmed in Australia last year with a substantial local supporting cast.

I don’t believe season 6 has been announced as the final season as yet.
