Stan Sport

Totally agree with @utaussiefan.

I can see why people have suggested WWOS but it doesn’t exist in a paid content space and would likely just create too much confusion.

With the Stan Sport branding, there’s a pretty seamless integration to the Stan package (“Upgrade to Stan Sport for an extra 4.99” or whatever) whereas introducing WWOS into the mix becomes a messy proposition. It only really lives online as a AAP repeater site with a few extra articles/podcasts/news video clips.

What’s going to be interesting is if WWOS eventually gets faded out/how they present the rugby on Nine and whether it’ll be a Stan Sport presentation on Nine…

That’s what I was thinking as well. I thought they went with Stan Sport because up until now they have kept Stan branding and the rest of the Nine completely separate. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people still don’t know that Nine own Stan.

My thinking is that they’ll keep the WWOS branding for the Saturday night game. The people who will be streaming on Stan know why they’re there, I don’t think they’ll care as long as everything else production wise is consistant

Not sure if this has been mentioned on Mediaspy yet , I saw it on another discussion forum , from the AFR not sure if completely true though about getting rights to tennis :

Nine and Stan are expected to lock in broadcast rights for the French Open and Wimbledon tennis tournaments as part of the media company’s new sports strategy across both free-to-air television and on-demand subscription video.he desire for more sports rights was revealed on Monday after Nine announced a three-year $100 million cash and free advertising deal for Rugby Australia’s broadcast rights and revealed rugby would also be streamed on new product Stan Sport

Mod edit: don’t post the full article.

Under Kerry Packer when he built up Wide World of Sports, Nine had the three overseas tennis Grand Slam tournaments, the four golf majors, F1, 500cc motorcycle, the Superbowl, the Ashes cricket in England, the Winter Olympics, and various other overseas sport. Nine gradually let most of them go. Hopefully this sees a return to the glory days of sport on Nine, and now Stan.

When they announce pricing, I will probably move from Prime Video to Stan now!

I wonder if Stan/Nine will go for the vacant jersey sponsor rights sitting around Rugby in Australia? Could be good advertising for the new platform. Also with the Australian Open, if Stan were to be a part of it (even if it wasn’t you want to get the word out there!).

Any logo yet for Stan Sport?

I always imagine it like the Sky Sport NZ logo.

I reckon it will use the same font as the Stan logo.

Really? I don’t think they will, most companies opt for another typeface for an add on like ‘sport’ so I think they’ll go with something a bit more contemporary.

Hmmm, if true that they will be picking up these tennis rights. They better have all courts going, there is no reason not to

At this rate Stan will have more sports rights than the anemic ten. 10 will soon have hardly any sport and at the rate their going no news either

The 2021 Super Rugby AU season draw has been confirmed with 22 games over 12 actionpacked weekends, kicking off on 19 February and concluding with the Final on 8 May.

The Final will be hosted by the team that finishes top of the ladder after the 10-round regular season, and they will play the winner of a two-versus-three Qualifying Final in the decider.

All 22 matches in the tournament will be live and on demand, ad-free, through Stan’s new streaming sport package which will launch in 2021.

One match each round, including the Finals Series, will also be simulcast live free-to-air on the Nine Network.
The season will start with a bang on Friday 19 February with a huge doubleheader starting with a clash between two old foes, as the Queensland Reds host the NSW Waratahs at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Then, later that night, attention will shift to Australia’s west coast as the Western Force host the 2020 Super Rugby champions, the Brumbies, live, ad-free and on demand on Stan’s new sport package.
From round two, every Friday night fixture will be live, on demand and ad-free on Stan’s new sport package with the extensive coverage.

Every Saturday night fixture from round two will be live, on demand and ad-free on Stan’s new sport package and simulcast live free-to-air on the Nine Network.

Rugby Australia interim Chief Executive, Rob Clarke said: “What a way to start 2021 and our new partnership with Stan and Nine. Our players are raring to go and are really keen to put on a show for fans, with Super Rugby AU to light up living rooms right around the country.

“Super Rugby AU was terrific in 2020 and will get better next year as this next crop of Australian Rugby stars continue to develop, and they are complimented by some genuinely talented international players who have since arrived on our shores.

“The 2021 season promises to be a great one for Australians fans with every game in primetime and with the added support of our new partners, Stan and Nine,” Clarke said. Stan CEO Mike Sneesby said: “This partnership with Rugby Australia will see Stan launch its live streaming capability in 2021, as we take Australian sports television into a new era.

“Through the combined audience reach and engagement across Nine’s television platforms,
we are well positioned to bring Rugby Union to more Australians than ever before,” Sneesby said.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Rugby Union TV Broadcast Rights 2021-2024 (Nine/Stan Sport)

I’m guessing it won’t be on Channel 9, but on 9GEM, since it says “Nine Network”. Nine could stream all games on their Network, but Stan Sports will increase their subscriptions.

Stan and WWOS have picked up the tennis;
