Stan Sport Football Coverage

Well they kept saying “exclusive” so I don’t think so.

That word is meaningless haha.

But fortunately they didn’t see the need to dispense with the world feed and put him on. He’s lost his fastball.

Having a look through this thread and surprised to see that there haven’t really been any caps at all from their coverage - so, lets fix that…

Stan today announced that experienced Australian sports broadcaster and host Adam Peacock will front Stan Sport’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League, the world’s best club football competition. Peacock will join returning experts Socceroos legends Craig Foster and Mark Bosnich for the 2024 UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta on Thursday, August 15 before the new look 2024/25 UEFA Champions League season kicks off on September 18.

Adam Peacock brings a wealth of experience from over 26 years of sports broadcasting and journalism. A football fan at heart, Peacock has been involved in the world game as a broadcaster and journalist covering competitions including the Asian Cup, AFC Champions League, Premier League, LaLiga and the A-League.

He has also been offering his insights on the Olympic Games as host of Stan Sport’s Paris Preview, the fourth Olympics that he has covered in his career.

Adam Peacock said:
“It’s hugely exciting to join the Stan Sport crew to cover the world’s best club football competition, along with the Europa and Conference Leagues which continually deliver epic matches every season.

I can’t wait to be on the couch with Boz and Foz for Kylian Mbappe’s official debut for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.”

Stan Director of Sport Ben Kimber said:
“Adam Peacock is clearly one of Australia’s premier broadcasters, as his track record across multiple sports in previous years has shown, and as he is currently underlining as the host of Stan Sport’s exceptional Paris Preview Olympics show.

Adam has a deep love for and knowledge of football, knows Boz and Foz well, and brings a breadth of experience in broadcasting during his career that offers a unique perspective for Stan Sport subscribers.

Adam takes over from Max Rushden who leaves with our thanks after being an integral part of successfully launching Football on Stan Sport with great energy and passion, and we wish Max all the best with his future football endeavours."

The addition of Adam Peacock comes at an exciting time for the UEFA Champions League with the introduction of a new competition structure for the 2024/25 season.

A single 36-team league will replace the group stage, with qualifying clubs no longer playing each opponent twice but instead facing eight different opponents (four at home and four away). This will create huge blockbuster matches between Europe’s top teams in this early phase of competition.

The new format also introduces a “knock-out playoff round”, eliminating the January break and giving more clubs a chance to progress to the final 16.

From the 2024/25 season, viewers will be able to enjoy over 540 matches across all competitions ad-free, live and exclusive on Stan Sport, a 31% increase from the current schedule.

The combination of a world-class live streaming platform with the highest reach in Australia, alongside Nine’s broader TV and media assets, means Stan is better placed than any other TV business in Australia to support UEFA through a significant new chapter for the world’s best club football competitions.

Cost saving measure by UEFA?

EDIT: this year’s Euro 2024 tournament was also not produced in 4K, although it was not shown in the format by Optus Sport anyway.

That means Stan will no longer be able to promote its football coverage is shown in 4K.

I doubt Nine will want to push back Today to make way for live European soccer.

Yeah I thought a Gem or GO! would be more likely, but the post above said Nine and 9Now.

It’ll be one of them - reference to Nine was shorthand for the Nine Network.
