and within minutes of the picture being released yesterday the anti-stadium group released their own professionally rendered images showing that it was bigger than that one and having a big whinge about the fact that it was now 10 metres taller than before and bigger than what had been released last year.
The funny thing about that though is they were so adamant last year that their water tank design they’ve been spruiking and had on billboards everywhere is actually bigger than their version released yesterday meaning that they have shown just how ridiculous it was.
You’d think with all their money being all the rich people they could get it done properly and stop ripping people off crowdfunding to put stupid ads in the national papers. Just get the bloody thing built so that Tasmania can move into the 21st century.
The RSL stance has been very disappointing to say the least. They said they couldn’t support the government’s plans without talking with all members and the sub branches about it but have no issue with speaking out regularly against it. They also came out very quickly in support of the 2.0 plan from Paul Lennon without the need to discuss with everyone.
There have also been numerous members who have spoken out against the RSL stance and in support of the stadium plans and they have been silenced by those in charge.
Optus Stadium won’t host non-International or BBL cricket this summer, while UTAS is unavailable meaning Hobart and Tasmania (men) will host all games at Blundstone:
The Melbourne Cricket Club released its 2023/24 annual report on Thursday. It said that bumper crowds at AFL matches at the MCG and the three Taylor Swift concerts meant the club could pay down the remaining debt on the redevelopment of the Northern Stand two years early. The club was debt-free and could turn its attention to plans for the redevelopment of the ageing Shane Warne Stand, although no decisions had been made about how that would proceed.
The MCC posted a net profit of $32.1 million for the year to the end of March after paying down the last $37 million in debt it owed for the Northern Stand.
The full report (with Taylor Swift on the cover) can be found here
Today’s AFL match between GWS and Hawthorn at Canberra’s Manuka Oval celebrates the venue’s centenary, although the actual anniversary was on July 5. It was on July 5 in 1924 that the oval’s first recorded sporting event was held, an Aussie Rules match between Canberra and Duntroon.
The proposed development of the eastern side of Manuka Oval will see its seating capacity increasing from 13,550 to 20,000.
There will be another Allianz Stadium in the world, with London’s Twickenham Stadium to be renamed as part of a wider investment deal between Allianz and the England Rugby Football Union.
It is still a bold decision that shows the fall of Rugby in England’s bargaining power despite still being popular that they have to sell the name to their iconic stadium. Allianz Twickenham would have been what I thought they would have gone with.
The Irish government has granted approval for the development of a permanent international cricket stadium and a High Performance Centre at the National Sports Campus in Dublin.
It is an idea that has merit and is quite exciting yet the government up there is determined to put up some shitty renovation of an ancient stadium out in the boondocks. There’s no vision with the mob up there.
This is the problem - they can’t seem to settle on one thing for very long - I agree the idea has merit, but if they want to deliver on it, they would need to act ASAP.
