Marvel Stadium has hosted four AFLW matches for points, not 1.

A double header in 2019, a game in 2022 and a game in S7. Peter Ryan obvs didn’t do his research!

Finally. A lot of disappointed people around Hobart this morning where they skew Green who are still determined to do everything they can to stop it but there’s also a lot of people happy statewide that finally Labor are coming to the party with it and that it will finally happen.

Not surprised at the backflip though - there were a lot of rumours that many of the Labor members were unhappy with the party stance but had to tow the party line and it was widely suspected that whoever became the new leader would likely change their policy on it.

They got there in the end, but lets be honest, they really didn’t have a choice.

They either got onboard and point out the cost overrun and lack of progress along the way…or…be able to be pointed at saying ‘they didn’t support the stadium, they killed the AFL dream!’

I think also, smart exceptionally smart politics from Mr Winter, unity on stadium, forestry and fish farming…kills off the “we support your jobs where labour dosen’t” type commentary.

I am a stadium and AFL team supporter however, so yesterday was a good day.

Might be an interesting video for some seeing the split-halves of the multi-purpose football stadium set to host some basketball and handball at the Olympics in Paris (stadium in Lille):

Maybe it’s just me or does a bit of OCD come out when you notice the MCG’s Great Southern Stand and Northern Stand aren’t actually the same height.

Every time I go to the G’ it comes out, an example was last night.

Knock down the Great Southern Stand and rebuild it to the same height as Northern Stand.

To prevent your OCD. Sure. Sounds reasonable.

It is 32 years old now - probably due for a bit of a redevelopment

New concept plans for Hobart’s Macquarie Point stadium are going to be released Sunday morning (although knowing how to access tomorrow’s Examiner newspaper I’ve already seen the report there).

7 Tas News had a report tonight about it too - said that the roof is going to be PTFE but will also be 10 metres taller than had previously been specified (I believe to cater for cricket) which of course those already against the project will complain about but I think it looks pretty good. Will post stuff tomorrow when it’s official.

Yeah they’re currently making plans to redevelop it by the end of 2035 (at the very very latest - ideally end 2032).

First look at Macquarie Point stadium design as viewed from Mures on the Hobart waterfront.

The image has been rendered by stadium designer COX Architects.

Overlayed version reveals its impact on Hunter Street, compared to renders released by an anti-stadium group last year. pic.twitter.com/cC6yxnlTRo
