Finally. A lot of disappointed people around Hobart this morning where they skew Green who are still determined to do everything they can to stop it but thereâs also a lot of people happy statewide that finally Labor are coming to the party with it and that it will finally happen.
Not surprised at the backflip though - there were a lot of rumours that many of the Labor members were unhappy with the party stance but had to tow the party line and it was widely suspected that whoever became the new leader would likely change their policy on it.
They got there in the end, but lets be honest, they really didnât have a choice.
They either got onboard and point out the cost overrun and lack of progress along the wayâŚorâŚbe able to be pointed at saying âthey didnât support the stadium, they killed the AFL dream!â
I think also, smart exceptionally smart politics from Mr Winter, unity on stadium, forestry and fish farmingâŚkills off the âwe support your jobs where labour dosenâtâ type commentary.
I am a stadium and AFL team supporter however, so yesterday was a good day.

Maybe itâs just me or does a bit of OCD come out when you notice the MCGâs Great Southern Stand and Northern Stand arenât actually the same height.
Every time I go to the Gâ it comes out, an example was last night.
Knock down the Great Southern Stand and rebuild it to the same height as Northern Stand.
To prevent your OCD. Sure. Sounds reasonable. 
It is 32 years old now - probably due for a bit of a redevelopment
New concept plans for Hobartâs Macquarie Point stadium are going to be released Sunday morning (although knowing how to access tomorrowâs Examiner newspaper Iâve already seen the report there).
7 Tas News had a report tonight about it too - said that the roof is going to be PTFE but will also be 10 metres taller than had previously been specified (I believe to cater for cricket) which of course those already against the project will complain about but I think it looks pretty good. Will post stuff tomorrow when itâs official.
Yeah theyâre currently making plans to redevelop it by the end of 2035 (at the very very latest - ideally end 2032).
