Emma Freedman to depart Nine and Wide World of Sports
Emma Freedman has paid tribute to the Nine network after deciding to move on and pursue another opportunity with Fox Sports.
Freedman hosted the popular Sports Sunday program in 2017 where she took the rein on some of sport’s biggest personalities, including Peter FitzSimons, Liz Ellis, and 9News sports reporter Neil Breen, to discuss the burning issues of the week.
“My time at Nine has been wonderful, but now is the right moment in my career to take on new opportunities,” Freedman said.
"I want to thank all the terrific people I have worked with at Nine and Wide World of Sports, including Tom Malone who is a great supporter and mentor.
“I’ll always appreciate all of his invaluable guidance and friendship.”
Malone, Nine’s Director of Sport, wished Freedman all the best for the future.
“Emma has been a terrific part of the Wide World of Sports team for the past two years, as we evolved Sports Sunday to be Australia’s Number 1 opinion-based sports show,” he said.
“We wish her all the best with her future endeavours and look forward to catching up on the sidelines!”
An announcement on the new host of Sports Sunday for 2018 will be made in the future.

I’m sure at the time she didn’t think, “I’ll do this for a year then Fox Sports will offer me a job in 2018”.

Any thoughts on who might take over as host?
Tim Gilbert, Cameron Williams, Michael Slater? There aren’t any of Nine’s female presenters who come to mind that would fill the spot…
James Bracey. Nine though really need to poach some female presenters/reporters to their sports department. Erin Molan is the most senior!
I would say to build her credentials.
Bracey already hosts the Sunday NRL Footy Show which directly follows Sports Sunday, unless Sterlo is taking back that position this year as he’s left Fox Sports.

Erin Molan wont be a host this year. Isnt she going to be on maternity leave soon?

I hooe its not Tim Gilbert. Hes suited just on the today show.

No mention of Emma Freedman on the show at all today, thought it might have been nice for James Bracey to at least acknowledge the fact she’d moved on. He wasn’t introduced as the new host either which I found a little strange!
I think this is a good promotion for James Bracey (to be host of Sports Sunday). He fitted into this role pretty good this morning.
Just a shame that he is no longer part of the NRL Sunday Footy Show, which will follow Sports Sunday from next Sunday onwards

I noticed in the show’s opening titles this morning that Michael Slater’s commentary snippet on the Nathan Lyon wicket has been replaced with a Bill Lawry commentary snippet. Seems the ties from Slats to Nine have been cut!
