Craig Bellamy the Storm coach wasn’t too pleased either about that. He actually didn’t like it that they went to the AFL Footy Show, i wonder if that’s why he had a dislike for Nine anyway.

Tonight’s AFL match between Essendon and Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium will mark 25 years since the two teams met in the first ever footy game at the venue, which was called Colonial Stadium at the time. The actual anniversary was March 9.

This is the highlights of the opening segment of Seven’s coverage (with Bruce McAvaney and Malcolm Blight) and a bit of the first quarter.

In collating the commentary lists from the 2000 season (which I’ll release soon enough, it’s far from complete) this is a rare appearance for Blighty away from The Gabba. In this “interim” year between leaving the Crows and getting seduced by St.Kilda, by my count he did 2 games in the first round in Melbourne (this game and the previous night’s season opener between Melbourne and Richmond), a Friday Night game in Adelaide vs West Coast (a double header FNF in Round 20 with Kanagaroos vs Geelong in Melbourne that night), and a final in each week of the finals (the Carlton vs Melbourne QF, the Roos vs Hawthorn SF, the PF rematch between Essendon and Carlton and the Grand Final)

Also worth noting the former channel 7 studio in this clip.

Was that a studio or just an ad?

The studio itself was located behind, Gameday on Sundays was recorded from there (John Longmire as a host made a great coach) and you could often see games taking place during half time wraps as other games were at the long break.

And just a couple of years before Seven Melbourne opened adjacent in Docklands. Still based at the iconic heritage Dorcas St South Melbourne studios.

It was a purpose built TV studio with a Seven advertisement from the outside. It over looked the ground. From memory, Seven only operated it for 2-3 years. I believe the area internally has since been renovated.

Anyone remember a show on channel seven called League Teams with Kevin Bartlett, Bob Davis and Sandy Roberts?

I only remember the one that ran from the 1960s to 80s. I didn’t know they tried a 90s version.

Talking about the City 2 Surf, I seem to recall Ten covering it in the 2000s as well with the Sports Tonight team, I think in the ONE HD days Brad McEwan and Rob Canning were live on-location, it was a proper telecast.

Then Seven picked it up, can remember Andrew O’Keefe; Samantha Armytage, Jessica Rowe and Simon Reeve all being on-location for Weekend Sunrise. But sadly was no longer a proper telecasted event, it was more crosses and highlights.
