Because of the lockout?

I remember in 1989 The ABC did their own coverage (probably taken the vision from the BBC) It was the 3rd Test at Edgbaston which ended being ruined by wet weather.

1997 was also the 3rd Test at Old Trafford where they took the Channel 9 coverage without watermarks and just had Jim Maxwell intro it

TV Week listed that only highlights were broadcast on Seven Melbourne on 25 April 1995:

Possibly Seven made a last-minute change to insert a full replay late at night?

Amazing how different Anzac Day was back in 1995.

No dawn service or news coverage during the day except the ABC mid morning.

Even the first AFL game played on Anzac Day wasn’t televised live. A highlight show was added in at 7.30pm.

Seven would’ve still had a bit of Coverage during Seven Nightly News: National Morning Edition as well as during 11 AM whereas Nine would’ve done so during Today and National Nine Morning News. Not sure about how much coverage 10 had during 10 News: National Morning Edition

It would’ve been shown live in South Australia and Western Australia. Not sure about Tasmania or Northern Territory

There was a year where they had a crew set up at the top of Heartbreak Hill (mid way marker) but only the camera was there as I went past, and that year I was starting in the same group as the elite runners (would have been about 2015 as I ran my quickest time of 68 minutes in 2014)

Cowboys home matches would start at 9.30pm due to daylight savings in the early part of the year, so Fox could do 3 live games.

Nine would do this on occasion, airing a Broncos home match live after Burke’s Backyard for the same reason (QLD being 1 hour behind). The Cowboys had a home match like that after Backyard Blitz one year too?

Was it in 8.30pm kick off in Queensland - 9.30pm Sydney time?

I recall the Cowboys had a home game against the Bulldogs in round two, 2005 (back when telecasts were delayed by one hour).

I think it would’ve been likely that game was live, given it was 8:30pm in Sydney and 7:30pm in Townsville. That would’ve also been JT’s first game against the club with whom he won the 2004 premiership after crossing to the Cowboys during the off-season.

he’s such a part of the Cowboys its hard to think of JT in anything but the Cowboys jersey .

Correct. Fox would try to do that early in the season since QLD was 1 hour behind.

Nine would do this too, often scheduling a Broncos home game at 8.30pm after Burke’s Backyard for the same reason (daylight savings going on in NSW, but not QLD). The Titans first game in 07 was live too at 4pm due to daylight savings in NSW but not QLD.

Managed to find the full SBS coverage of the Australia vs Uruguay WCQ (the second leg) that was played at the Olympic Stadium on 16 November 2005.

Oh boy, what memories. I’ve watched my footy team win four grand finals but no win has meant more to me than this one did.

Fun fact, I never got to see most of the second half or the first half of extra time. Some dickhead drove into a powerpole a few suburbs over from our home and knocked the power out for an hour or so just after half time. We settled for listening on a battery radio until the power (thankfully) came back on just before extra time ended, so we got to see that incredible penalty shootout.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how well this match rated? It was talked up quite heavily from memory, but it was still soccer which had a fairly limited audience in Australia in those days.

Robert Walls on the night of 9/11 on Talking Footy

As far as I know, that would’ve been Walls’ only year at Seven as an expert analysis on their AFL coverage (also the station’s last season broadcasting the sport until 2007).

He of course joined Ten the following year and joined Quarters and Michael Christian (later Tim Lane) on their Saturday night coverage.

one of the two best games of football i’ve watched (the other was Matildas V france in Brisbane)

yep. we had sky in our loiunge room in the place we lived above the pub my dad owned. we knew we were up late if the music videos started. after the pub would close, they would crank it up downstairs and listen to it whilst cleaning the pub.

it was just some filler for the TV’s for those with late licenses - the latest any pub we had was licensed for was midnight, and that was only on a Friday or Saturday night. Back before every pub had a “VIP Lounge” and closed at 4am..
