2018 FIFA World Cup opener last year. It was a great opening title for the tournament. I remembered last year where Lucy Zelic made an emotional tribute to Les Murray last year and he puts in more effort. Well done.
Does anyone have a list available of all the commentators that commentated on the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017?
Had a google search and failed to find anything so far…
Came across the Beach Cricket in 10 year old guides the other day (TV Week 2008), who remembers that? 10 aired them, I recall Andy Maher being involved, forget who else
When Nine had Wimbledon, matches didn’t start until 10.30pm and there were lots of complaints about the lack of live coverage. Perth didn’t get the men’s and women’s Final Live.
If Nine gets the Wimbledon rights back in 2021, which I suspect may happen, they better treat it with more respect. Have 9Gem telecast the event with Todd Woodbridge, Jim Courier and co. in London with James Bracey or Rebecca Maddern presenting in-studio from TCN or GTV.
It will be different in 2 years with multichannel offers. Had 9 got the rights this year, matches will be on 9Go on some days to avoid clash with the CWC. Most of their Australian Open commentators would’ve been used too.
Please don’t speculate on hosting roles for something two years away and with rights not yet attained.
I remembered Ian Bishop, Mike Atherton, Mel Jones and Lisa Sthalekar were among the commentators.
It was a tri series format with Australia, West Indies and England one year and New Zealand was involved in the other with teams full of old fellas. The ball was half rubber half tennis ball available with a carton of the sponsor’s product. Given it was a Channel 10 job I’m sure Mark Howard annoyed us with his presence in the com box.
I remember watching the Beach Cricket on Channel 10 during the summer period. The rules were different to normal professional cricket as a cricket player cannot be dismissed LBW if he plays a shot.
@stmookey027 - The commentary that was used in 10’s Beach Cricket was Colin ‘Funky’ Miller,
Unfortunately, I didn’t watch the 2009 Beach Cricket on TEN (as I was in Europe) but I feel that this was the final year of the tournament. Beach Cricket did not return in 2010 - I believe that was due to unviability.
The Dream with Roy and HG during the Sydney Olympics.
Next year 7 could be airing Sydney 2000 specials after their broadcast of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to mark the 20th anniversary of the event.
I remember 7 airing the 2000 Olympic games on 2 C7 Sport channels as well as their traditional broadcast on Channel 7. 6 million people watched the Opening Ceremony which is the highest ever rated event in Australia.
Week 1
Week 2
The Dream was a surprise hit mainly through word of mouth. Gradually, overseas athletes and sporting greats who were in Sydney at the time all wanted to appear on the show.
The Ice Dream with Roy and HG was a sports comedy talk show during the Salt Lake 2002 on Channel Seven from 10 Feb to 24 Feb 2002. This talks about the highlights of the show as well as witty humor during the games.
The Cream was another comedy/sports show presented by Roy and HG during the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The Dream with Roy and HG also returned during the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games.
Roy and HG did not made another appearance on our screens until February 2014 when Ten signed them up for Sochi 2014.
Originally I think they wanted to call it “the wet dream” but seven weren’t fans and it changed to the ice dream.
Eeewwwww… really?
That title would put me off watching.
I remember them saying it prior perhaps it was Roy and hg exaggerating as usual for a laugh.

7’s and SBS’s schedule for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Before the era of multi channels.
Rio 2016 was covered on 3 free to air channels (7, 7mate and 7Two) which was the first multichannel Olympics.
Single channel coverage by 9 in 2012 was criticised with Foxtel offering 8 channels showing every medal event live. 9 showed the Ceremonies live and exclusive.
Back in 8 August 2008, Seven pushed the Melbourne v Geelong match live into Perth. Correct me if I’m wrong but what was the starting time for the match between Melbourne v Geelong in Round 19, 2008?
https://afltables.com/afl/seas/season_idx.html has it listed as 7.05pm. Not always accurate, but rings a bell that it started earlier than usual.
