Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

What an insult to call it Triple M and play these tracks.

They should’ve kept localism to go up against ARN Regional’s local station brands.

Either take the Brisbane log or rebrand as Heart or local brandings SCA

Southern Cross Media stations have always been an insult to regional listeners lets hope the Queensland, Victoria & WA stations they have to sell will be bought by someone who will actually more In local content.

I wasn’t a fan of the rebrand back then. Triple M meant rock, and the hertiage stations SCA have are/were meant to be all things to all people - classic hits with a touch of talkback and sport, and a hell of a lot of local identity. I thought it was a bad idea as it muddied the MMM brand. Guess I was proven right. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Calling the stations “Heart” isn’t a bad idea - they are meant to be the “heart” of the local community.

This idea really seems like a strong branding point to use

I agree. SCA have done all they can over the years to destroy the Triple M brand both in the metros and in regional areas.

They should never have rebranded local stations to Triple M. But now that they have, the Heart brand is better suited to those stations in most markets.

The Heart brand sounds wanky you don’t really need a brand just use the call sign ie Triple M Central West becomes 2GZFM. A lot of local people would still call it 2GZ even though the on air branding has been Triple M for 10 years. The whole brand thing was to sell to national advertisers made by sales people who lack understanding of how radio actually works.

I’d like to see the hertiage brands return. But this is SCA - they would just find a new brand to lump the regional stations with. That’s why I suggested Heart - you can make the link with these stations being at the “heart” of the local community. But the old callsigns would be even better.

That and the fact that they are all pretty well relays outside of breakfast now days anyway. Bare minimum in terms of local content or on air announcers.

Was it SCA or ARN Tamworth stations which were previously called Heart? I think Triple M Hobart was previously Heart.

SCA or ARN have never owned the Tamworth stations.

That’s correct. It was branded as such from 2006 to 2016, after having previously being branded as Magic from when it launched in 1998.

Yes it was Heart 107.3 in Hobart for a while.

Also, Kingaroy’s 4SB was branded Heart 1071 for a while too.

Haha! I was meant to type REGIONAL lol.

SCA doesn’t own Tamworth, NSW commercial radio stations 2TM (Now TMFM 95.5) & 92.9 FM since it’s part of the Super Radio Network.

That’s one market they could buy into with the Super Radio Network sale.

Hit stations are much worse after they axed the 20+ local breakfast shows I think In Mildura Triple M has local content from 6am - 12pm.

Triple M Regional has local mornings 6am til 12pm and Hit has local statewide mornings only I believe

That used to be a possibility, but with The Northern Daily Leader soon becoming only a once-a-week newspaper, and therefore no longer counted as a voice, SCA would no longer be able to acquire the Tamworth radio stations, as it would fall below the minimum number of voices if they do so.

Some larger markets like Newcastle, Gold Coast have Hit and Triple M local until the national drive shows start.

Central Coast has local Triple M to 12pm. There are a few other exceptions too, like Townsville and Hobart, but not sure what.
