Agree, in isolation it’s not too bad, but the problem is a lot of the same songs get played too often (as most of us have often said).
For example, swap out songs like Diesel’s ‘Come To Me’ for ‘All Come Together’ or even ‘15 Feet Of Snow’ rather than just that song all the time. Or The Romantic’s ‘What I Like About You’ for ‘Talking In Your Sleep’ etc.
It baffles me completely, I do recall back in 2020-21 when Triple M Regionals went through a classic/mainstream rock format like its metro counterpart, they had played new songs such as Five Finger Death Punch’s “A Little Bit Off” but when they went back to the female friendly playlist beginning in 2022, the latest songs that I heard from them were “Bad Habits” and “Shivers” from Ed Sheeran which were both released in 2021 and a version of Coldplay featuring BTS’ “My Universe” which excluded the verses from the latter band. (Also released in the aforementioned year)
Like someone on this group said, the regional versions of Triple M would at least benefit for putting in newer mainstream artists such as the aforementioned “Teddy Swims” or at least take the metro feed from Adelaide and Brisbane on weekdays since they’ve softened up.
I liked when they took the Brisbane playlist back in 20-21, I think that’s where they should be going personally, it wouldn’t hurt to put in some new “Triple M friendly” artists, Ed Sheeran is not it for me.
I’d prefer a mistral playlist too, not leaning into male or female demo’s too much but they aren’t really being challenged on that anywhere.
A couple of mornings ago I got Triple Shepparton with full RDS on my DX-ing radio & I’m In Ouyen which is covered by Flow FM on 95.3 it’s posing a big problem In our area from what I’ve been told the ACMA won’t allocate a new frequency because it sits on the edge of the Swan Hill license area.
That would actually work no other high-powered stations using that frequency In Victoria 3MCR woods point is the most powerful using 90.1 & they are only transmitting at a power of 100 watts.
This week, The regional Triple M Network has apparently gone back to their “Feel Good” era pre-Covid as i apparently heard Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” and recently “Hello” by Adele (rather than “Rolling in the Deep” which has since seeped into the metro playlist) as part of the Regional MMM’s “$50k No-Repeat Workday” competition as the announcers have stated that they were playing songs that haven’t been played on the network in a long time or haven’t at all.
Unfortunately these types of music are mostly played on the new digital station HEART on LiSTNR.
Surely Southern Cross Media doesn’t know what to do with the regional MMMs following their network wide rebrand ten years ago as the once great rock station brand has rolled in its grave.
The Feel good playlist was horrible, I personally liked the greatest hits format they ran with about 10-12 years ago or that small period of time where they ran with the Triple M Brisbane playlist which I thought struck a good balance.
