Honestly, it reeks of them double dipping on the branding, like they did with the Hit Network (ie. Hit 101.9 The Fox, Hit 104.1 2DayFM). That went down like a lead balloon too.
How far is too far before the industry can label SCAâs Hit/Triple M rebrand as a flop?
- SeaFM Gold Coast is back
- Triple M Gold (to make up for the loss of GoldFM)
- B105
- SAFM
- 2DayFM never completely changed
- The Fox never completely changed
Whatâs next?
As far as we here are concerned & some others in the industry, it was a flop from the day it was conceived.
Generally the public donât care, most still refer to the stations old/original names anyway.
SCA will tell you it was a complete success, as it was done for ease of selling advertising, nothing else, they could sell a block of ads on the Hit network or the Triple M network, they didnât/donât have to list every station in contracts or discussions.
Engineering wise, internally they are all rebranded & referred to as either the Hit or Triple M service (along with the frequency of which one youâre talking about) including FOX & 2DAY.
Just to annoy them, if I have to work on any of the SCA transmitters I refer with them to the NOC as their call-signs (or original name), I say Iâd like clearance to work on the 2DAY 104.1 transmitter or the 2MMM 104.9 transmitter, theyâll then usually reply with clearance granted on the Hit 104.1 service or Triple M 104.9 service.
Still refer to 864 Toowoomba as 4GR, confuses a few new comers at work but meh always was 4GR until SCA had the bright idea to make an AM service a Triple M
Ohh and the official callsign is still 4GR
Pricey finished up on air for good last Monday (Christmas Day) He will be missed,I know from following Triple M Townsville on Instagram.
Didnât hear him on this most recent Sunday.
Curious why youâve found this story now @MichaelPower ?
Summer break youâd assume.
Been enjoying the âSummer 600â countdown on the Triple M regionals, which started yesterday.
Some great songs being heard in the early stages.
Interesting though that Newcastle is a massive 7 songs ahead of the Albury hub (Newcastle was at #462 a short while ago vs #469 at the hub at the same time). Not sure how theyâve widened so much early on given the countdown is less than a quarter in and if or how it will even up.
Also noticed Sydney arenât doing a countdown at all.
I must say, I do like it when a station finds local talent rather than purchasing existing talent from other markets.
Metro stations would have their countdowns interrupted by Cricket, which isnât on the regional stations
I think itâs the best countdown that they have had in a long time. It reminds me of the old Jack FM type format that they had many moons ago. It kept me listening.
Agree, there have been a lot of songs they donât usually play (which obviously suggests to me that their regular playlist is a lot less than 600 songs).
Now that they are into the 2nd half of the countdown, next week is shaping to be quite boring as Iâm expecting the usual overflogged stuff to clog up the top half of the countdown.
Yes I agree. When I was listening to them last weekend, I could not believe how boring they were.
My gosh the audio processing on Hit 101.3 Central Coast is absolutely horrible. So much distortion it sounds like something is wrong in their Optimod.
I just returned from a weeks holiday in Port Macquarie and listening to the Hit there the difference is incredible. @mcpaton if you had any hand in setting that one up, job well done! Can you work your magic on Hit Central Coast too? My ears hurt!
Triple M Hedland breakfast now comes out of Bunbury about 1800km away.
Talk about losing relevance to your audience as the alleged local station.
Pathetic move by SCA.
They tried something similar in the early 2000âs when as Rural Press they cancelled the 6AM, 6MD, 6NA and 6WB breakfast shows to network it from Bunbury as the âBig Bush Breakfastâ. Lasted about a year.
Breakfast needs to be local wherever possible especially on the heritage stations.
I suppose accepting that thereâs only one local shift - is Breakfast the right spot for it?
There isnât really âcommuterâ traffic in these regions - so are you wasting local product on an audience thatâs asleep or not near a radio (or itâs just background noise)? SCA in general have been shifting to mornings, and I think that might be the more optimum slot.
Obviously a very bad thing if thatâs the last local slot - I canât find a proper schedule to double checkâŚ
Triple M Broome Breakfast is local
