Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

Mostly because 4LM is running a lot of Sydney based programming apparently.

Must be a coverage thing - 2RG and 2WG cover very large areas across those plains of SW NSW. That or they don’t want to spend the money - but you’d think the benefit of switching to FM (and decommissioning the expensive AM transmitters) would pay for itself.

Hit on AM? that’s never going to work, what they should be doing is converting the Triple M stations on AM over to FM.

In WA, there are a lot of Triple M stations but there transmitters are poor, the transmissions that aren’t good enough are Newman 88.9, Meekatharra 101.5, no station at Marble Bar (annoying), Cue 104.5, Mount Magnet 100.9, Dalwallinu 104.5, no station at Payne’s Find (annoying).

Whilst not totally surprising, in what way do you say poor?

Sound quality wise (even though they are mono) or coverage wise (even though they are mostly low power)?

The regional hit network today were playing nothing but one hit wonders from the 80’s to now. It was absolutely brilliant! Was this on the metro network too?

Yes, it was.

Pretty sure metro & regional ran the same one hit wonder playlist.

Yes 2day and Hit 101.3 We’re running from the same log today, but in a different order from one another.

Yet their name is “Hit”. I suppose it kinda still works.

Looking at Lava just now, I’ve noticed that Hit in Newcastle & Gold Coast have a different log to that of the other regionals, much like how it is on Triple M.

Here’s an example of an hour of Hit in Newcastle & Gold Coast from 11am-12pm today:

Robert Miles - Children
Doja Cat - Say So
OutKast - Hey Ya!
Savage Garden - Break Me Shake Me
Zedd / Maren Morris / Grey - The Middle
Sam Fischer / Luca Schreiner - This City
Taylor Dayne - Can’t Get Enough of Your Love
Black Eyed Peas - Let’s Get It Started
Kygo / OneRepublic - Lose Somebody
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere
Jonas Brothers - What A Man Gotta Do
Rihanna / Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You
Bryan Adams - Can’t Stop This Thing We Started
Lady Gaga / Ariana Grande - Rain On Me
Guy Sebastian / Lupe Fiasco - Battle Scars

And compare to Hit in most other regional markets during that same hour:

Sam Fischer / Luca Schreiner - This City
The Pussycat Dolls / Snoop Dogg - Buttons
Kygo / OneRepublic - Lose Somebody
Blink 182 - All The Small Things
Sia - Together
NF - Let You Down
Daryl Braithwaite - Love Songs
JoJo - Leave (Get Out)
Saint Jhn / Imanbek - Roses
Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Jonas Brothers - What A Man Gotta Do
Tobtok / River - Fast Car
Keith Urban - Polaroid
Pitbull - I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)
Justin Bieber / Quavo - Intentions

As you can see, Hit in Newcastle & Gold Coast is a bit more older-skewing than the rest of the regionals.

Fleetwood Mac on Hit?

I don’t think even 2DAY/SA plays that, and they’re the only HIT stations that normally includes any 80s music in their playlists.

If anything, I was expecting more like Whitney Houston or Madonna.

Funnily enough, looking at Lava, Hit in Newcastle & Gold Coast did play “Cherish” by Madonna over an hour later at around 12:45pm AEST.

The sample on that b105 relaunch clip included some Fleetwood Mac, so I’d assume they would.

Surely New FM have to go to hit music if Hit Newcastle is going to essentially their 80s to Now format…

That Hit GC & Newcastle selection is a good choice actually - considering the competition from NewFM & Hot Tomato.

If NewFM skewed younger then by default so too would the regional BOG FM stations. This could be a good thing considering a market like Dubbo now has no CHR station.

How can SCA continue to afford all these rebrandings?

It was done in-house which would bring the price down.

That, and the company just sacked a whole bunch of staffers. JobKeeper means a fair chunk of wages are subsidised by the government, which helps.
