Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

Overspill from Melbourne (Fox/KIIS/Nova) and Sale (TRFM). In the 2016 survey, TRFM was outrating 3GG in the Warragul market - unsurprisingly, neither of the Sale stations were listed in the last Warragul book.

will this mean that Ray Hadley would be heard into Dubbo and Gippsland on Triple M?

Re Hit 93.5 Dubbo becoming Triple M Dubbo, you can get fortuitous reception of Hit 105.9 Orange in Dubbo on a good car radio.

I reckon yes to Dubbo, no to Gippsland.

I don’t think any of the other Victorian regional Triple Ms take Hadley.

Sun FM (Mildura) used to but dropped the show around the time of the Triple M rebrand if I remember rightly.

Over the weekend Hit Gippsland have had promos with Anna Dare announcing that a new sound is coming to Hit Breakfast (obviously being Triple M launch on 94.3 Gippsland) along with a $5k giveaway on Monday - complete with the Hit Breakfast jingle (go figure!)…

And yet they’re openly promoting the changes online :man_facepalming:

Although to be honest, the efforts at SCA Gippsland are a bit lame…

  • the change is not on the Hit Gippsland home page but on the “Gippsland News” page, where the previous “news” item was a Total Fire Ban announcement dated 19 December 2019. With that frequency of updating, who’d bother checking out “Gippsland News”
  • the home page identifies Anna Dare as being followed “Cam” on weekdays - complete with the graphic promoting his brekky show on Hit 102.5 Mt Isa…you can even still see part of the 6 - 9 am timeslot.

One can only hope there is a step up in effort with the name change! At least they won’t have to edit the Triple M Rocks Footy promos.

TRFM? Fox in some other areas?

The whole procedure is like Target stores converting to Kmart although a bit more dramatic with the music format change.

Hit has flipped to Triple M in Gippsland and Dubbo, Luke Bona on air now.

Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars was the last song on the Hit stations.

Did they switch to Triple M at exactly Midnight?

Slightly before midnight - was timed into the start of Luke Bona’s overnight show

Here’s an “out there” idea.

If SCA now views Triple M as a more important brand than Hit, in markets where Triple M is AM, why not flip Hit and Triple M, so Hit is then AM and Triple M is on FM?

I think both brands are equal, it’s just easier in those markets that have one station to execute localism and promos like footy on Triple M.

Interesting to see if the solo Western stations in QLD will be next to become Triple M or is there too much crossover with the heritage AM stations?

Hmm, I find it difficult to see CHR music working on AM. But I guess it does come down to how much money each ‘brand’ makes

I have an Original 94.3 Sea FM Sticker from the days when they had 3GG as their Sister Station.

I never could understand why the ACMA has never aloud some of these AM stations like Griffith and Wagga convert to FM. There is only one player in town plus there is plenty of spectrum to use.

Hit’s Mount Isa ratings (more than a 50% share) suggest they’re doing alright out west

Triple M Wagga & Griffith are eligible to convert to FM. It’s just that the stations chose not to do so for some reason.

Triple M in Mt Gambier, as well as many markets in WA, are also eligible, but chose not to go ahead with it. Only Albany is considering it & if it wasn’t for the presence of 6EL, Bunbury would definitely have put their hand up for it.
