Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

Gold Coast and Newcastle running their own Rock’s Greatest Hits log as of today.

Why are they running a separate ‘Rock Greatest Hits’ log to the other regional M’s?

Go by Lava, Newcastle and the Gold Coast are running a very safe Rock playlist.

Perhaps due to overlap with the Central Coast and Brisbane respectively which are on the Brisbane/Adelaide metro log

Correct.

The small sample I got today and it wasn’t too bad, better than Pink, Guy Sebastian etc every second song.

Wonder if there will be any changes to the Regional Hit Network?
It would make sense if some take the 2Day log and some take the Melbourne / Brisbane log. Time will tell I guess.

This from a news report on how drivers have been passing the time whilst stuck in Albury-Wodonga traffic due to the border closures.

Am guessing this lady is on 105.7

Dubbo and Gippsland are switching from Hit to MMM next Monday.

Serious? So there will be a triple m Gippsland?

woah really? That will do better in Gippsland, Ace and Fox have the market already covered, and MMM will provide a difference from 1242 when they are doing talkback.

It was announced on-air this morning that Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills are leaving breakfast on Hit 90.9 Gold Coast after 12 months to focus on their networked early breakfast show, coming out of Brisbane. Their last broadcast will be this Friday.

I wonder if they will do a different playlist to the other regionals which have all gone “rocks greatest hits” to cater for the “hit” listeners.

Very interesting move. I always thought there was more money in Hit as there were both more listeners and also more in the most lucrative demos. Maybe I’m wrong.

Will also be interesting to see how Ray Hadley goes against John Laws in a market where the latter has a good head start.

Fascinating move - seemingly hands the younger demos straight over to Zoo/TRFM, but maybe they figure the Triple M music format will resonate better with the middle age demos than talk on AM does?

Can’t wait to see some surveys to see how this will play out

Not dissimilar to the change in Bundaberg (although that was spurred along by the conflicting name of Hitz) where they found that there was a substantial niche in between the competing hit music and AM stations.

Agreed, Dubbo in particular does not have a music option for that slightly older demographic, and it’s been a while since I listened to 1242 but it sounds like they’re a bit more talk-heavy too. Could be a smart move, but really opens up a part of the market to your competition

Interesting announcement, it was obvious from the start that this was never a long term move for them so it seems really pointless to have done all that just for a year.

They really should’ve left Dan and Ben to it for the year after Heather left and tried to find another female co-host they would work well with them.

For Warragul, their licence area extends to Pakenham (and the signal ever further into Melbourne) where they compete with the Melbourne stations as well. With Fox, Nova and KIIS, there’s no reason for anyone to listen to hit Gippsland unless they can’t receive the Melbourne stations. Triple M Gippsland might have better appeal in this area if it isn’t too similar to Triple M Melbourne.
