Yes because it fits the Triple M brand perfectly, but no because I think that format is too narrow for what in many cases is a 2 station market. With Hit focussing on 00s to now mostly (with occasional 90s songs), means that there’s nowhere for some 70s and 80s music which is still very popular eg. ABBA, Madonna, Duran Duran.
You should see the complaints on the GC socials, people are blowing up. Pink came in at #2 Which is simply ludicrous.
The metro one is far far better and most of the regionals are taking that as far as I’m aware.
They need to make some changes to become more competitive again in the market.
If Survey 3 eventuates, I’m certain audience numbers for Hot Tomato will have built further and Gold and Sea will have decreased. (or as is now 92.5 MMM and 90.9 Hit, difficult to tell these generic franchises apart)
Travelling in regional Vic today and the Triple regionals have definitely changed there format. No more pop or girly music any more. I know they copped some criticism on these forums but I actually didn’t mind it over the capital city stations as it gave them so much more variety.
Love love LOVE the “Rock’s Greatest Hits” format on Triple M Central Coast. So many forgotten gems that would have previously never seen the light of day are now getting a spin. A lot more 70s tracks too, and I’ve even heard some 60s classics by The Beatles, The Doors, Joe Cocker etc.
It’s now the kind of station that I could leave on all day, as opposed to one that I’d want to switch off in 10 minutes - or as soon as they played the latest Ed Sheeran or Pink hit They should have changed to this format when they rebranded from 2GO to Triple M.
