Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

I’m hearing ya, but i actually prefer the regional playlist than the metro. Metro doesn’t play any pop at all but boy it’s narrow. I like the regionals to get some more variety.

Yeah, doesn’t sound any different to the feel good playlist in my opinion.

If that’s the case don’t listen to any MMM regional station for a week. It’s basically the same songs played in a different order each day. Heck I’d even drag the phone out to listen to Classic Rock Digital for the same reason you listen to the regional stations.

Unfortunately mmm are not alone, all stations seem the same now days

From Radioinfo:

As SCA takes control of the Spirit Network in Western Australia, there is one station still left with an uncertain future, Spirit FM in Bunbury, previously known as 6EL on AM 621.

Rumours are strengthening that the station will be sold to SEN, perhaps as soon as next week, when the rest of the network is scheduled to rebrand to Hit and Triple M.

As a public company, SCA would not be able to comment on the sale until it is finalised and notified to the stock exchange. Radioinfo believes the in-principle sale has been agreed but not yet legally finalised.

Will be interesting to see how this rumoured 621 SEN Bunbury will meet local content requirements.

Maybe it will be a local breakfast with a music focus - that’s about the only way they could do it?

Doing a locally produced 3 hour sports show each day with some sort of local sports content would be too expensive for the small population it serves.

I don’t think they need to worry. ACMA let 4FC in Maryborough get away with no local content whatsoever, just a relay of 4TAB

4FC in Maryborough, along with 3BT Ballarat & 3SR Shepparton, are exempt from local content rules, as they hold a regional racing service radio licence.

Going by the latest Melb survey, SEN could argue they’re of limited appeal.

Still, more local content on SEN than 4BC. Great to be in a metro market and have none of the regulatory requirements.

Major stuff up happening now on regional Triple M during the NRL coverage. A Paul Kelly song appears to be playing on repeat with the NRL coverage in the background. (12:08pm)

Edit: fixed now at 12:11pm

Spirit afternoons DJ Matt Layton won’t be a part of the new Triple M WA line up tomorrow, announcing he is headed to the SCA Cairns newsroom. Matts’ show was heard in Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Bunbury and the remote Spirit stations. No word on what we will hear in this slot on Monday.

I guess this means he has finished his extra 2 hour show on Spirit Bunbury as well, while the rest of the Spirit network takes Kennedy/Molloy, 4 to 6pm. Find out tomorrow!

Also, fill-in guy Archie Anerson has been hosting Triple M Southwest breakfast this past week as Allan Aldworth moves back to Perth to be with his partner and host Hit WA breakfast from Perth, also starting tomorrow.

Still no word on what will be on the 6EL licence tomorrow?

No clues at all. I have been listening casually
to 6EL a bit more that I usually do. Same promotions as always for network shows like Beyond the Backyard, Spirit Party and the Sunday Classic Gold on today. Business as usual it seams.

With Matt Layton leaving, it’ll only leave Ashley Dillion 6 to 10am and Noel Brunning 10 to 2pm. Then, no network feed to relay after that.

I’m guessing the Facebook pages and websites will change over sometime tonight?

The Triple M website already has the new WA stations listed.

Red FM Facebook page has already been deleted.

Angie Ayers, host of the breakfast show on the remote stations has relocated from Perth to Bunbury to continue that role.

Though there are no logos for any of them yet.

Are remote stations not getting the new Perth-based show?

Yes they will be. Angie works on Spirit/Triple M.

Will be the first time since the early 2000’s that all of WA, north and south, have had one CHR network. WAFM went statewide until it was rebranded to RED FM and Coastal Stations (Broome, Hedland, Karratha, Geraldton remained as WAFM) while various towns down south switched from RED FM to what was HOT FM in the late 2000’s.
