From what I understand the trends arent necessarily driven around the number of tweets, rather its generated based on what people are currently talking about
You can think of trends as the topics that have the highest “tweets per minute” increase this hour compared to the previous hour. So a TV show that commences will go from close to 0 to thousands per hours. By contrast an item that might have been gathering tweets progressively for hours and even days will trend lower or not at all. Also check if you have personalisation turned on as this will significantly influence the trending topics. So the longer a topic is being tweeted about the more it needs to increment to stay trending.
There’s also another side to the story being reported.
Instagram has launched their own version of TikTok, called Reels, just as TikTok is under siege in the US.
No more TikTok or WeChat in the US potentially.
