Maybe promoting DAB stations to the level of something like an AM or FM station is too hard?

With David Campbell and now Richard Wilkins out of action due to COVID-19, wonder what impact this will have on Smooth’s weekend line-up

Karl Stefanovic refers to Dickie as “the Don Bradman of rooting”, so there’s always been something interesting about Dicky Wilkins.

Melissa Doyle, posted on her facebook page about 45 minutes ago with a pic of her doing her show from inside her wardrobe at home (probably using Zetta2Go) & a note at the end saying got some ABBA on the way.
I know most shows on Smooth are voice tracked, but wondering if they’re doing some in live assist mode, rather than voice tracked automation while working from home?

Quite possible, but the reason they voice track is so they don’t have to work longer hours than needed & be away from home on weekends (as well as Nova Entertainment not having to pay as much), but using Zetta2Go, it’s just as quick & simple to do it live than voicetrack, & if your at home you do your voice spot, play the next few tracks & go clean the kitchen or vacuum the lounge room, then come back do another voice spot & off you go again.

I will eat my hat if Melissa Doyle has a Zetta account. It would likely be recorded into Audition or something, sent to Smooth, and loaded / segued there.

What makes you think that?
Zetta’s quite easy to use & Melissa isn’t an idiot, (I’ve currently got some 70+ year olds doing Zetta training at the community station I engineer, where it’ll be installed in about 4 weeks, so if they can do it, Melissa can probably do anything Zetta with her eyes shut), & anyway she’d have a Zetta account supplied by Nova Ent. & would do a voice track from home straight into Zetta, the same way she’d do it if she was was in the studio, they’re not going to be cheaping out doing pre recorded voice tracking shows, then pay a second person to load/program the voice tracks into the automation.
This is music radio, not talkback, the announcers do everything themselves, there’s no producers or panel operators, with the exception of some breakfast/drive shows, but even then the producer & or panel operator is usually part of the on air breakfast/drive team.

Smooth are the kings of voice tracked automated radio. What annoys me to no end is the insidious scripted style of announcing. The false smile in the voice is almost as bad too.

I prefer 2ue than fake smiles. 2ch is much better than smooth from this aspect.

I have to agree. Love the music on Smooth (although it’s not as good as before) but the pre-recorded sound of the announcers and yes the false smiles (Melissa Doyle!) is awful.
I don’t know why they do it. Smooth in the UK has similar music (perhaps even softer) but they manage to sound 100% more alive even at night, due to live announcers most of the time. If they are doing voice tracking then they are certainly doing it much better than Smooth here.

Smooth have started their ‘tell us what you want us to play to make everyone feel good’ today however every song so far that’s been ‘chosen’ by a listener is the same as the songs the play 487 times a day anyway

- Save the Best for Last: Vanessa Williams
- Wishes: Human Nature
- Something wrong with my baby: Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham
- Beauty and the Beast Ariana grande John legend

I havent heard any of them today? And ive had it on since 8am. Perhaps thats a different state?
