So it’s now Smooth FM 95.3 rather than Smooth 95.3?
Even before today’s significant change, the logo had been “Smooth FM 95.3/91.5” for a while now.
Anyway, they’ve been quick to update the DAB+ slideshow!
It’s always branded as Smooth FM nationally, no change.
Who approved of this photo of Robbie Williams in the smooth ads in today’s Sunday Telegraph? It so frightening. It reminds me of Chucky from the Child’s Play movies.
Robbie looks more evil than relaxed. If I ran into this guy in Surry Hills I would assume he had consumed meth, rather than some relaxing music on smooth.
Listened to smooth for about 20 minutes this morning and I couldn’t notice any changes other than some jingles. It’s so obvious all the announcers are pre recorded or voice tracked. Would be great if they were live on the weekends
been photoshopped so much that he’s barely recognisable. Do they not realise how fake it makes people look.
That, and the quality of newsprint now is dreadful
I saw the new TV ad (with new logo) with Robbie Williams on Nine tonight.
Has him playing mini golf indoors whilst singing along to Billy Ocean (amongst other things).
Much preferred this one to the Michael Buble ones they had last year.
I’m glad the Buble ad seems to have been retired, since it dated back to the launch of Smooth FM!
Mind you, I wouldn’t be overly surprised if they eventually brought back their original ad again since they seemed to prefer it over newer campaigns featuring Sam Smith and (at least in the choice of music) John Legend!
…so really the only difference (so far) is smooth have updated their original jingles and have made a big deal about it? Anticlimax and about time.
Are the updated jingles even that new? I think I remember hearing what sounded like updated Smooth 95.3 jingles on-air in December last year!
I saw the same ad during Seven News tonight.
Karl Stef said at Dicky’s book launch that he’s the Don Bradman of rooting.
With useful content for the local audience always helps. We can read music prep anywhere on the internet these days. Keep your finger on the pulse of the audience, whatever the format.
Just an observation. Remember when Smooth Relax launched it was hard to tell the difference between it and Smooth FM? Not any more. They’ve gradually diverged with Relax now playing a lot more older and easy listening tunes of late. I’m really enjoying it actually. It sounds a lot like the original format of Smooth FM.
Makes perfect sense now that smoothfm is “feel good” rather than “relax/easy listening”.
Whilst the songs are ok, I don’t enjoy the smooth relax audio on DAB . It sounds a bit harsh.
I find myself only find the audio on 2ue/2ch to sound good. Anything below 64 doesn’t cut it for me.
Yes, there’s definitely a more noticeable loss of detail in the sound once you get below 64 kbps.
If only he could work his magic on Nova which seems to be stuck on following KIIS and 2Day, rather than steering its own ship to create a better product.
Yes true.
Also if only they actually promoted Smooth outside of Sydney and Melbourne. The other capitals have Smooth on DAB yet they don’t promote this winning format at all. Weird.
