Aka, sorry not sorry…
The axing of Freya Fires Up was mentioned on Media Watch tonight.
If anything, it shows just how naïve Freya was/is and the lack of care Sky gave to her. Sure, she’s a pretty young thing - great for a visual medium - and shares their views, but just because you’re a social media “star” does not translate to having a long form show on a not very well watched network.
I’d be going back and doing more training in the media space. And maybe changing your misinformed views. You’re 22 years old - if anything, you should be living it up, even if you are married.
There are definitely a few radio networks that could take note of this as well.
I do wonder — if this stunt had been pulled by Paul Murray or Andrew Bolt (neither of whom I have much faith in, to be honest), would the reaction have been the same? I strongly doubt it. It seems like the backlash is, at least in part, because she’s new and relatively unknown to the Sky audience — many of whom probably aren’t on TikTok. That makes it easier for them to cut her loose.
MW reporting the show had one producer who has only been in TV for months, and they were fired over this. How is that fair? When it was approved by senior management, once again fucking over some young producer over something that should have had more oversight.
I think they were hoping her profile among young conservatives would help bring them to TV/the Sky socials.
Goes to show how much life experience matters and how much the world has changed. Doing 30 second rehearsed clips on tik-tok differs to presenting a one hour live show.
20-30 years ago I highly doubt they let a kid near a live tv show, people used to learn the ropes and get given the opportunity when ready.
I’m genuinely curious what Sky’s long-term strategy is if DAZN decides to pull the plug on their entertainment channels, or just chooses not to renew their contract altogether. That kind of move would leave Sky in a pretty vulnerable position, especially if they’ve built their platform around that content.
If it happens, I can already picture the reaction — they’d probably go on a PR blitz, claiming they’re being “censored” or that it’s just another case of “cancel culture” silencing alternative voices. But let’s be real: a $5/month app and a few YouTube uploads aren’t nearly enough to keep a full-fledged media operation running at scale. Not without a major backer or a serious pivot in business model.
Unless they’ve got some ace up their sleeve, losing DAZN as a distribution platform would be a huge blow — both financially and in terms of visibility. It raises real questions about how sustainable their model is without that kind of platform support.t
They start sucking up to Paramount probably as they’re already on the regional multiplex
They’ve really been pushing their subscription streaming service which, if DAZN were to pull the plug, they’d ramp up. I think securing the regional partnership with 10 also helps, and they’d look to expand that to metro if need be. They are also running on LG and Samsung smart channels, and Binge.
So while DAZN pulling would be a big blow, it wouldn’t be an immediate death knell. They have other platforms to market and explore. Not forgetting their biggest audience (and I believe revenue stream) remains YouTube.
The Sky News brand could live on 7 if Comcast buys out SWM with Sky News on 7 aligned with their UK sister channel
Sky News Australia would need to drop its name if this happens
They are probably considering new names/branding as we speak as they will need one when their current licensing agreement expires.
The name can be used on 7 if/when they join the NBC family from 2027
Whoever was on Sky this evening with Sharri, the Home Affairs minister or whoever it was really was annoying.
No wonder the libs are slipping with people like that.
Just a quick question: The Late Debate. Yes, it’s on late. But, where is the debate? All three hosts on the show always agree with each other.
how about they call it

in all honesty, i think they should channel into News.com.au branding, or even The Australian, use what you’ve got, don’t invent a whole new name.
I’d love a “news.com.au” branded channel but i don’t think that they match the vibe of Sky News. The Australian would be a better partnership.
But if Sky wanted to reinvent itself, i would partner with news.com.au and do a complete overhaul, not opinion pieces, new website and move away from celebrity gossip and lifestyle.
The Home Affairs Minister is a Labor MP
