I’d also offer that a lot of Nationals voters are not aligned with the conservatism that the Nats are now espousing. Its one of the reasons why the likes of the shooters and fishers are gaining popularity by occuping part of the ground that the Nats previously did
@PaulMurrayViewer where In “the bush”
Do you live?
I can only go on the numbers and they don’t support these statement.
Sky News is not popular in regional Australia. The Sky News on WIN multichannel is the lowest rating commercial multichannel in regional Australia with a prime time share less than 2%.
ABC’s news channel has a similar audience share but combined with the audience for its main channel news programs, ABC News is watched by multiple times the audience of Sky News.
A “boutique” news service is probably the best description it has been given.
As far as being a news service popular with the regular Joe, I’m not sure how to measure that, but by far the biggest slice of Sky News on Win’s audience is over the 55 audience, and that doesn’t seem to match that description. Demo groups such as 16-39, 25-54, or people with a child who purchase groceries all put SNOW way behind any other channel including ABC News channel.
Overall, ABC TV is just as popular in regional areas as in metro, (identical audience shares metro and regional last 4 weeks) so regardless of what people might think of ABC they certainly use the service in ‘the bush’.
According to research this month, relating to the recent bushfire crisis, that predominately affected ‘the bush’
- The ABC was the most used and most trusted broadcast media source among the Australian community with 81% of the adult population aware of the ABC as an information source and one in two (54%) Australians claiming they used the ABC as their main source of information during the crisis. Claimed usage of the ABC was higher than all other broadcast services.
- The ABC was ranked as the best source of information on the scale and impact of the bushfires with ABC News TV the leading source of information on these topics during the crisis.
- Qualitative research found the ABC is well informed, up to date, associated with quality journalism and brings to the community impartiality, truthfulness, and depth of knowledge. The ABC helped to create a national conversation during the crisis and drove positive changes in behaviour.
Edit: I meant to say lowest rating commercial mutichannel.
Blue Mountains
As we covered a few weeks ago - there is a significant difference in SNoW’s ratings across the various markets, rating higher in Queensland and Northern NSW then the rest.
That’s just offensive to people named joe and people with a brain.
Ah yes. The City Of Blue Mountains. 75 minutes from Sydney. Where farming dominates industry and lifestyle. Very much “the bush” lol
The Southern NSW area includes Canberra and Wollongong.
I used to live there. We NEVER referred the Blue Mountains as “the bush”
I’m not in the City of Blue Mountains, my property is in the City of Lithgow, which is part of the blue mountains, fortunately for me I can get SNOW on my second tv which doesn’t have Foxtel. My wife’s not a fan.
I think you’re missing everyone’s points they’re making to you.
To me the “bush” area areas of Australia where farming is the predominant industry. Where people live on farms and make a living. Rural life. This is about 5% of Australia.
Regional cities and large service towns are not “the bush” , especially when they are in the pull of metropolitan Sydney
The fact you think John Hewson is right of centre says everything about you #noidea
Absolutely correct. Hence the reason Alan Jones has the NUMBER ONE breakfast radio show. Hence the reason Scott Morrison and the Liberals WON the election after the alternate party outlined far left policies. Hence the reason the Liberals are an ELECTION WINNING POWERHOUSE.
Everyone has a right to voice their opinion on something. @PaulMurrayViewer has a right to voice HIS OPINION here without being relentlessly attacked by the vicious left wing members of this forum. It’s just like the RIOTS going on, the deplorable comments on Twitter and disgusting comments by lefties like Clementine Ford (who said the Coronavirus isn’t killing enough men)… the left have demonstrated time and time again that they are a vicious, nasty and downright deplorable minority of society. As we have seen right across the world (and on Media Spy), they can not handle when someone has a different view to them. They scream down their throats, call for the channel to be shut down (@cmo falling for Sky News to be shut down because it doesn’t represent HIM) or resort to disgusting attacks.
Yeah those protestors are deplorable, not cops killing unarmed black people. Good on ya yobbo.
Multiple people have been killed or left with a permanent disability by the so called ‘protesters’ including a black cop. Multiple businesses have been looted or destroyed by the so called ‘protesters’. Good on ya, yobbo.
FactCheck
Across 5 nights last week (Sun-Thurs) in regional markets the primetime shares were:
Sky News 2.18%
10Peach 1.94%
9Life 1.82%
7Flix 1.64
SBS Viceland 1.36%
ABC News 1.22%
SBS World Movies 1.04%
SBS Food .66%
ABC Me .66%
NITV .2%
Sky is not the lowest rating multi - there are 9 more with lower ratings. Sky comes in 7th place.
Sky rates above 10Peach, 9Life and 7Flix
Sky rates 95% higher than ABC News
SBS Viceland rates higher than ABC News
I think it’s fair to say in regionalTAM markets it’s a pretty popular channel
Double ABC News, the only platform that ABC does well in the country is ABC Radio.
Also not true.
In broadcast TV, Year to date ABC is the 3rd most watched channel and has a 12.4% share to 10’s 10.3% share across RTam markets.
Also year to date, ABC News and Sky News are equal on 1.8%
ABC Kids/Comedy beats both with 2.7%
Last week ABC had 4 shows in the Top 20 in regional markets as apposed to 3 shows in metro markets. ABC News at 7 in regional markets also ranked higher on the list than in metro markets. Suggesting it might be MORE popular in those markets
ABC is equally popular Australia wide.
Sorry I had meant to say that SNOW was the lowest rated commercial mutichannel. Not sure how that didn’t make the post. And I was referring to the year-to-date ratings results where that can be seen to be the case.
